We had a friend who would use the F word so often that I remarked to DH that he was the only person I’d ever met who could use that word as every part of speech in one sentence. It was really a pain to listen to at a time when you rarely heard the word from other people. But I honestly don’t think he was aware of just how often he used it – and as a Francophone he would have considered it a lot better than the French curse words that were related to the Church.

Today I would be a lot less shocked and have been known to drop the F bomb myself though I avoid it as a rule because I work with the public and would hate to inadvertently use it in the workplace.

A couple of times in the past, I’ve had my cousins come over to play video games such as Halo 3. You should’ve heard the language they and my brother used while we fought each other. Cuss words like “You effin’ B**h!! You **** Scker” and others. Of course, I didn’t partake in any of the salty language, and tried to enjoy the game on its own terms. Would what they did be considered sinful?

In addition, I personally get upset whenever Catholics and Christians use bad words, mostly mild ones, in order to discuss the seriousness of what there talking about, because it reminds me of the stronger language and gestures that people around me in my state in life use, you know.

Another example of “Bad Words” not being real offensive are some of the reactions of the people when they saw some of the events that took place on September 11th. Just something else to ponder.

Hear’s the bottom line. Using expletives isn’t always sinful, but most of the time it is. It all depends on your intentions. While I do agree that we should be more concerned by not using God’s name in vain or as a cuss word than by using four letter cuss words, it doesn’t mean that we have a free pass on using the f, s, a, b, c, d, and p words in our vernacular. We should try our best to improve and clean up our language and use it as a tool of spreading generosity, love, encouragement, forgiveness and above all the gospel. Nough said.:clapping::clapping:

p.s. You have every right to your own opinion regarding bad words, and I wont override my opinion over yours.

what we at our parish were taught during catechism based on ephesians 4:29 is that curse words are sinful
{probably venial}
