Hi folks:

I am aware that Pope John Paul II, Benedict XVI, and the Magisterium of the RCC have encouraged interfaith dialogue and ecumenical cooperation with Jews, Muslims, and Protestants. Are there similar efforts underway with respect to the Baha’i Faith? Please do NOT use this thread as a springboard for launchng into what you do or do not believe to be true or false about the Baha’i Faith. I suppose that I don’t mind discussing whether or not Catholics SHOULD be involved with Baha’is in such ways, but let’s keep it pleasant and focused. Thanks!

Yes I’d seen this little leaflet recently, in another thread here at CA in fact.

I guess what I was asking is: do Baha’is and Catholics work together on certain projects, through the UN for example? Do they have joint symposia, conferences, or similar meetings in order to dialogue either on religious divisions or to discuss issues of common concern? That sort of thing? Have there been formal contacts or formal statements from one side concerning the activities, beliefs, or shared values of the other? I’d be interested in know whether such things happen between Baha’is and any Christian denominations, but it would be most interesting for folks in this forum if we stick primarily to contacts between the Baha’i Faith and Roman Catholicism. Thanks!

Reviewing the material shared by Harmony above and I’ve seen some other summaries I think the Catholic Church should be commended for it’s ecumenical work.

At least where I live there is a local Inter-faith Council and our secretary is a Catholic who represents the ecumenical affairs of his Church. So basically this is his area “ecumenical relations”.

Baha’is generally will work with any church in their communities usually through local inter-faith councils. Each inter-faith council is a little different in composition. In a neighboring community it is called a clergy association. On our council we have representation of LDS, United Church of Christ, Conservative Jews, Muslims, Catholics, Methodists, Baptists, Christian Scientists, Baha’is and so on.

We Baha’is have been on my local Inter-faith council for many years even when it was under the Council of Churches.

So we discuss programs and services on the local level that all of us can support.

When you serve on a local Inter-faith Council you realize how important working together is to accomplish goals in the community.
