I would like to purchase a Baltimore Catechism.

Apparently there are a few printings or publications of it. I will use it primarily to teach Sunday School, as well as to sharpen my own knowledge.

Any help?

Thanks in advance.

Try amazon.com. The used books don’t come directly from amazon.com itself, but I’ve chosen to buy used books from sellers with lots of reviews and few bad ones, and have had very good luck.

Autom catalog, autom.com sells both reprints of traditional BC and new St. Joseph catechisms by grade leve, less than $3 each.

I guess I was unclear in my question.

Is there a publication or edition of the Baltimore Catechism which is better/more accurate/more orthodox/etc than another?

I am not aware that there is more than one edition, the ones out now are reprints of the last published edition from the 50s or 60s, they are divided as I said by grade level. If it says Baltimore Catechism it should be the edition produced under the auspices of the US Bishops in successive editions from the 1880s onward.

sorry too late to edit previous post but could not find the thread on the forums I was looking

amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_b/104-2528624-3603157?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=Baltimore+Catechism&x=15&y=16

if you had these versions with later dates in front of you I think you would see that only the covers are different, the insides are reprints. The St. Joseph New BC is the only one I know that has newly typeset the content, but although some additions and notes have been made, the content remains the same from the version used in Catholic schools in the 50s and 60s. Beyond this I am not sure what OP is asking.

In case you don’t know, Baltimore Catechism #1 & #2 are subsets of #3. The #1 & #2 contain some of the more basic info from #3 and are probably good for gradeschool students. The #3 is probably for middle- or high-school students. The #4 is actually an explanation of #3, and is great for any teacher or anyone wanting to know more. Since you are a teacher I would highly recommend all 4 volumes. As you can see from the links posted by others above, you can find all these at both Amazon and TAN.

Thanks for the info.

I believe my Confirmation students are not educated or knowledgeable enough to warrant the grade-by-grade system. I generally find myself having to teach them the absolute basics of the faith. The BC would help tremendously.

I just didn’t know the difference between #1, 2, 3, and 4.

Thanks for the help.

Just FYI, #4 is intended for teachers and is the most comprehensive of them. Seems to be the one you’re looking for.
