Hamba2han likes to show us images of mosques standing amid the rubble of neighborhoods destroyed by earth quakes and the like and claims this is proof of the truth of Islam. I am curious Hamba, how should we interpret the cyclone in Bangladesh? The Red Crescent thinks the death toll may be as high as 10,000. The country is approximately 83% Muslim after all, or was Allah going after the Hindus?

Well, whatever the reason (and however stupid the Muslim world thinks we Westerners are), many countries have sent aid and military medical teams and two U.S. naval ships, each carrying at least 20 helicopters and tons of supplies are standing by and will be made available if the Bangladesh government requests them.

I’m sure that, like you, hambam and everyone here has nothing but prayers for the wellfare of the survivors and that our prayers are with the familes of the missing and the dead.

That is complelety true Valke, we should not use disasters as a proof of a certain “curse” of God against some people. We should care for the welfare of the survivors on top of any other things regardless of what religion they are. God Bless you.

I hope the rich muslim countries are helping Bangladesh too.

MORE muslims die in ‘natural’ disasters than other religions.

The earthquake at BAM, the tsunami, the stampedes during Haj, the sinking egyptian ship carrying hundreds of muslims. etc etc.

All these disasters are direct blessings from Allah. Allah basically wants all muslims to die. Either die early or die while killing non-muslims. In general muslims are kept backward, less educated and ill-informed. This is key in keeping them ignorant about the happenings of the world and driving them eventually to their damnation.

If the muslims could see, they wouldn’t be muslims.

Amen! 👍

Hi

I agree with you. Everyone whatever the religions should pray and help the people struck with disaster.

I would however point out some verses from the scriptures as a food for thought:

The Holy Quran : Chapter 17: Bani Isra’il
[17:16] He who follows the right way follows it only for the good of his own soul; and he who goes astray, goes astray only to his own loss. And no bearer of burden shall bear the burden of another. **And We shall never punish until We have sent a Messenger. **
[17:17] And when We intend to destroy a township, We command its people who live in comfort to adopt the way of righteousness but they transgress therein, so the sentence of punishment becomes due against it, so We destroy it with utter destruction.
[17:18] How many generations did We destroy after Noah! and thy Lord suffices as Knower and Seer of the sins of His servants.

Unquote

From OTBible:
Deuteronomy 18 :17-20
17 The LORD said to me: “What they say is good. 18 I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers; I will put my words in his mouth, and he will tell them everything I command him. ****19 If anyone does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name, I myself will call him to account. ****20 But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded him to say, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, must be put to death.”

From NTBible:
Acts 3:23
23Anyone who does not listen to him will be completely cut off from among his people.'
Thanks

I do try to remember people suffering from natural disasters in my prayers Valke2 and I do not believe this, or any other natural disaster is an act of a vengeful God swariffin. I also do not belief that the avoidance of a disaster is a blessing from God as hamba2han has repeatedly done on this forum.

However as hamba has told us here (and I am confident paarsurrey would agree) everything is the will of Allah. So by their reasoning/belief this disaster was the will of Allah inflicted on a predominately Muslim country. I am simply curious of Muslim’s take on this.

Does that inlcude Katrina? and the Twin Towers disaster?
Pending correction by a Muslim I have to assume (based on what hamba has said) that they believe all natural disasters are the will of Allah. Perhaps they believe man-made disasters are ultimately the will of Allah as well, I do not know. As I stated I do not believe post-biblical natural disasters are the actions of a vengeful God and if they are punishment from God, He is punishing all of humanity, not just one or a few groups. Perhaps we will get an answer from a Muslim soon.

You can’t be serious!

Using that kind of reasoning, maybe Muslims could say that they are blessed above other nations because they control a disproportionate percentage of the world’s oil reserves…

They could surely even pull some verses from our own Scriptures to “prove” that riches come to those that God is pleased with.

The urge to reduce God and His unfathomable ways to the dimensions of our limited mental processes, should be resisted at all costs.

Hi George, that question has been answered in Ralphinas post below:

Hi

And how my Catholic and Non-Catholic friends would explain the following verses in the NTBible:

Matthew 24:27-29
27For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 28Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather.
29**"Immediately after the distress of those days
" 'the sun will be darkened,
and the moon will not give its light;
the stars will fall from the sky,
and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.**

Luke 21:10-11
10Then he said to them: "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. 11There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven.

And following in the OTBible:

Zechariah 14 :12-15
12 This is the plague with which the LORD will strike all the nations that fought against Jerusalem: Their flesh will rot while they are still standing on their feet, their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongues will rot in their mouths. 13 On that day men will be stricken by the LORD with great panic. Each man will seize the hand of another, and they will attack each other. 14 Judah too will fight at Jerusalem. The wealth of all the surrounding nations will be collected—great quantities of gold and silver and clothing. 15 A similar plague will strike the horses and mules, the camels and donkeys, and all the animals in those camps.

Quran/Islam/Muhammad said in the same context.

Thanks

Please be charitable. There are lots of reasons that many Muslims die in natural disasters that have nothing to do with God. Even if we do not feel that they are following the correct faith, we should not have the view that they deserve to die. God wills the slavation of all men, we should do the same

I wonder how much the Muslim world has sent to their fellow human beings?

Not very kind for being a “Christian” are you?
Maybe you should pray for them instead of being ANGRY toward them. The are after all YOUR fellow Human.

Thank you famdigy! Please correct me if I am wrong, but according to the cited post Muslim’s believe the cyclone in Bangladesh is either a test from Allah or a punishment of Allah, correct?

paarsurrey, this thread is about the cyclone in Bangladesh and the Muslim belief of why it happened. Please stay on topic and do not change the subject. Thank you.

KathyCatholic, I am not sure how much aid Bangladesh has received from Muslim countries. A lot I hope. If not I have to wonder if it is because other Muslims feel it is punishment from Allah. Welcome to the forum!

You are right, George. Even before I wrote my posting, I did believe that you have the same opinion as mine. Just as yourself, I am also curious to hear the opinions of our muslim friends, and it is for the purpose of knowing them better.

Why would muslims hold a different view?

God’s will is God’s will. Period.

His will is for us to know Him. We screwed up and we live in a screwed up world because we are disobedient humans.
For some reason beyond our understanding God chose Jews to be blessed no matter what they do.
Thanks to Jesus, we can now hopefully learn a better way. (in your faith- Muhhamed for some reason, but whatever)

Why do we even ask these things?

pain and suffering happens to all of us no matter what faith/belief and we all work it out with a different understanding of the why/who/ect

But, in the end- its really about one thing. Life here sucks, and we know that.

Something made it suck, and something will make it right in the end.

Thanks

Dear Hellisreal,

I believe what George is looking for, is how the muslim would view such disaster. As a punishment? as a warning? or other? You are correct. God will is God will. I am pretty sure they will agree on this. BTW, I am Catholic.😃
