Did anyone watch the mass from Sistine Chapel with Pope Benedict XVI??? What were your thoughts??? Personally I got a lot of out it and observed the Traditional Latin Mass on TV for the first time. I do wish instead of having voice over during some of the Pope words that they would have had subtitles through out the broadcast. I was able to follow along with the mass and understood some words.
 
It was not the Traditional Latin Mass. It was the “Ordinary Form”/“Novus Ordo”/“post 1970”/etc. and was also largely in Italian. However, the Pope utilized the option of facing the altar for the celebration. I also wish that subtitles were used…it seems less intrusive. But considering that I also watch on my PC and the connection isn’t very good…perhaps a combination would be ideal.
 
Actually, although Pope Benedict XVI celebrated the Mass ad orientem as he did last year for the Baptism of the Lord, he celebrated according to the Missal of Paul VI, not the TLM. The Mass was also said in the vernacular. In this case, Italian.

Sorry I thought the it was traditional Latin. I did enjoy the mass, just the lady’s voice over top the Pope’s took some of passion out of it. I would rather have subtitles.

Chris Alteiri is the best of the Vatican Radio bunch when it comes to calling the Papal Masses. He doen’t “talk over” as much as the rest and he lets us listen to the Liturgy of the Eucharist on its own. He will offer commentary during Holy Communion to recap the homily, but, he is excellent.

It was in Italian because all of the children being baptized have parents who work at the Vatican. Naturally, the Mass would be in Italian since that is the language spoken thee.

I was pleased to hear that his voice had returned. He looked great. I was also thrilled to see him celebrate Ad Orientum.
