This is the conversation between me and a baptist preacher I emailed after reading a website he made that teaches hate. I ask you is hate the message Jesus preached?*

How do you teach hate from the bible?

To Peter -

God cmmands “hate” in His Word, the Bible: “Hate the evil, and love the good” (Amos 5:15) *God teaches hate in the Bible, and commands us to do likewise.

So what should I reply to this guy?

Can’t really reply without context. What was the pastor teaching that led you to identify it as hate?

The pastor is right - though I think he could have qualified his terms a little better.

dictionary.com gives this as the first definition of “hate:”
to dislike intensely or passionately
We are supposed to intensely dislike evil.

Sorry Peter. I didn’t catch your link until after I posted. I read what the pastor wrote and I would suggest that 99% of what he wrote, in my opinion, would not fall under the category of “hate”. He is definitely misinformed about a great number of things and I would suggest that any further communication with him should be an intellectual exchange with the goal of arriving at the truth.

Ask him questions that invite him to back up his assertions. For example: 1) Do you have any credible historical documentation that millions of Baptists were tortured and killed by Catholics or by others on behalf of Catholics; 2) Can you produce a single official Church document that teaches that the Mass is a re-sacrifice of Jesus’ on the cross; 3) ask him why Baptist’s ignore Jesus’ words to eat his flesh and drink his blood; and so forth.

I really believe that is the only hope of having a productive discourse with him. It could turn into a lengthy exchange.

All I want to say as a former “Baptist” and now happy Catholic is what my priest told me and that is that a huge percentage of Catholic converts come from the Baptist denom. No "hate " involved in that statistic.🙂

So a lot of Catholic converts were former Baptists? That is pretty cool. I was raised Southern Baptist and I checked out a number of different Christian denominations and even non-Christian religions before I finally settled on Catholicism.

As the link to the website was removed, its difficult to get a sense for the people or organization with whom you engaged.

Given some of the sites and forums I’ve seen in passing, its probably best just to stay away …

It is cool and better than cool…I believe it is true. Something good comes from where you might least expect it. Bless you:)

The website just spoke negatively about th CC and how any “so called Christian” who cooperates with the CC is going to H E double hockey stick.
