Baptism: 3 godparents?

OK, now I am confused as to if I even have godparents.:confused: My grandparents “stood in” for my non-Catholic aunt & uncle, who I believe are on my baptism certificate as godparents. Would that make my grandparents my official godparents?

We have in this conversation two meanings of “Godparents”. The cultural meaning and the canonical (canon law) meaning.

Your Grandparents were there but not in the role of Godparents. You are specified as Godparents during the Baptism, you cannot become a Godparent by default. Your aunt and uncle were placed in the role of Godparent, but do not meet the requirements to be Godparents.

So yes, you actually (IMO) have no Godparents.

That does NOT in any way invalidate your Baptism!

The Church has laws and rules for a reason, Why do people specifically pastors keep going around, over or under them.
