I did not expect anyone to disparage the Sacrament of Confirmation and those being confirmed by putting confirmation certificate in quotes sarcastically
You’re reading sarcasm where none exists, and therefore, are presuming we’re ‘disparaging’ the sacraments where that has not been the case.
or stating they do not exist, or suggesting they are simply a souvenir.
Yet, in a certain sense, they are a memento, and are not sufficient for other purposes. (It might surprise you to see what people do – for example, taking an existing document they received at the time of reception of sacraments – and doctoring up the doc, so as to make the situation seem differently than it is, so that they might appear to be eligible to be (for example) a godparent or a confirmation sponsor. Getting a new document – and, often enough, asking that this document be sent directly to the priest who is marrying the couple – helps to avoid the opportunity to do this sort of thing.)

I’m still not certain whether the ‘baptism certificate’ you mention is simply that, or whether it is, in fact, actually an extract of sacramental information. Next time you come across a couple preparing for marriage, and have the opportunity, you might want to ask to see whether there’s a section for ‘notations’ on the document. In that case, it’s not simply that the parish is asking for baptism information, but rather, for verification of freedom to marry.
That is a great injustice.
Were it the situation that you’ve conjured up, perhaps. Yet, that’s not what’s going on here, it seems.
