Baptism, Confirmation and 1st Communion question

Dear All,

I am going to be baptised, confirmed and recieve 1st communion very soon and I am just writing to ask what I should expect? I have seen the process with someone else, so I know what happens and how it looks etc…
I am writing to ask for anyone’s memories about how it felt to them and how they stopped the nerves getting to them while they were professing their faith during these sacrements.

TomKat, I was baptized, confirmed, and received first communion on Easter Vigil. I’m not nervous in front of crowds, so that really wasn’t a worry for me. I did a lot of praying beforehand and reviewed and practiced the responses (I took a missal home). Most of the responses are pretty simple (I do and yes) so I wouldn’t worry about screwing things up. 😃 If you are the nervous type, especially if you are going through the baptism and confirmation alone, you might mention your nerves to the priest. He’s been through this many, many times, with many nervous people. I saw ours “nudge” people a bit and even tell them the response when they froze up.

I tried to keep my focus totally centered on Jesus during the entire Mass. I don’t think I saw or thought about any other parishioners until after communion.

How I felt? It was only the most wonderful day of my life. I am still on an “Easter high,” and I am still in shock at how much unmerited grace descended on me all at once.

I was confirmed and received first communion 6 months ago. It really was as Gwen said, the most wonderful day of my life. My husband and I were received into the Church together which was also a huge blessing. I remember it being surreal that I had been to Mass so many times and that I was at that moment taking communion with fellow Catholics. It was incredible and very hard to describe. I also don’t remember anyone else at the Mass, it was just an awesome time of prayer and being one with Jesus and His Church…THE Church.

I also remember that day that it was so weird to walk in to Mass not a Catholic and walk out as one.

Now, every day I’m reminded of the beautiful gift of God’s grace given to me on that day and every day since.

How you feel and what you expirence on the big day, will be unique to you alone and a once in a lifetime event. Don’t worry, you can’t mess up, but to feel more comfortabe about the whole process, ask your sponsor if it is possible for a rehersal, run through, a day or two before, so you will be prepared. My RCIA director always recommended that you take some time out for reflection and prayer on that day, if there is Eucharistic Adoration available to you, that would be ideal! Welcome Home!!
