Baptism for my 2 yr. old

HELP! Can I baptise my son in a Catholic church even though my family attends a christian church. My wife and I were born and raised Catholic but 3 years ago my wife started to go to a Christian church and for the good of the marriage I am going with her as well. I want to baptize my son in a Catholic church but I’m not sure if I can.

Any help would be very appreciated.

First off the catholic church is a christian church. I assume by “christian” here you mean protestant. But beyond this, you should be able to have your child baptized if you yourself commit to raising the child as a catholic. However, if your child is baptized in a protestant church in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, the baptism will be accepted as valid by the Catholic Church.

You will need to be a member in good standing with the intention to raise your child as a Catholic if you expect to get him baptized in the Catholic faith.

Most good pre-baptism programs will require that you are sincere in your willingness to bring the child to Mass, educate him in the faith, and see that he receives the Sacraments as he becomes old enough. If you can’t do this they will suggest that you do not go ahead with this. However, there are parishes that will give you the benefit of the doubt and will baptise your child. May God guide you and your wife in your faith life.

why would you seek baptism for your child in the Catholic church when you yourself, and your wife, have rejected its claims and teaching? If you came to my parish, this is what I would ask you in our initial interview, and I would be justified, I think, in asking you to demonstrate how, under the circumstances, you could claim intent to raise him as a Catholic.
 
don’t know how to edit my reply, StVeronica is not quite accurate in her reply. It is not even necessary that the parents be Catholic, but they must intend to raise the child as a Catholic, with all that demands, and as I said, it is incumbent on the priest who baptizes (or his delegate) to ascertain that intent.

Do you attend Mass in addition to accompaning your wife to services at her church?

If not, begin to do so.

Also, explain your circumstances to your parish priest and seek his guindance in this matter.
 
Run, do not walk to the nearest Cathoic Church where you can ask these questions face-to-face with a priest who can actually help you in your situation, right now. Do not be surprised to find yourself facing a few hurdles . . . but at least you will know where you stand.
 
I’d also like to gently suggest that both of you come back to the One True Faith, the Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, for the good of this child, if nothing else.
