I am sponsoring someone who will be baptised this Easter - he is an adult male with French as his first language and English his second.

Does anybody have any good ideas for a suitable gift for him?

Also, he has mentioned he would like a prayer book (in English) - any recommendations for something I can get easily in the UK - something a little simpler to follow than ‘Morning and Evening prayer’ I think…

Thanks everyone

An icon with the holy family, St Joseph or any other saint maybe? We had some sisters from Belarus visiting and they sold icons and other items for a very, very good price. I tend to “stock up” when they come or if I go on a holiday and know that friends are getting married or having their child baptised or confirmed.

When I was received into full communion with the Catholic Church I received a gift card (sponsor) so I could buy books or something from the Catholic bookshop and some books from other people. When I have been a sponsor I have given the persons a candle I had decorated myself (if they didn’t have a candle from their baptism) and a rosary I had made. One got a book about the rosary before being received as he had so many questions about the rosary.

Also, a nice Nativity scene is something that people like to have but seldom buy fro themselves.

I think getting him a prayer book in English could be a good idea.

I’d go with a nice catholic bible, a copy of the catechism, and/or a rosary.

Yeah, but we give those to the RCIA candidates from the church. I would do something more personal. Maybe a lovely crucifix.
