you know that there’s no Roman Catholic church in china. there’s only a so called “Chinese Patriotic Catholic Association” which doesn’t recognize the pope, his infallibility and his teaching(for example “humanae vitae” because of pressure from the goverment), but other faith are similar.
Is baptism in china considered valid by Roman Catholic church?

There is an underground Church in China, and baptism there is valid. As for the state church, I’m not positive. I know I read on another thread here that Catholic tourists to China can go to a state church Mass and have it count for Mass, but I don’t remember if tourists were supposed to receive the Eucharist there. I could see the stance being made that if your intention is to be with Rome, and the only safe way for you to get baptised is within the state church, then that baptism would be valid. While the Church encourages martyrdom, it does recognize that not everyone is called to it.

If they baptize in the Trinitarian formula “I baptize you In the name of the Father, and of the Son…” with water, then the Church will recognize the Baptism.

Since the Church recognizes their Holy Orders as being valid why not their Baptisms, which is even more fundamental.

Interesting:

My wife and I will be travelling to China around next May or June since we are adopting a girl from there.
I was not even expecting to see a Christian Church there.

In our home study process, the social worker said that she was not going to even discuss that we are practicing Catholics and place our faith in very high regard. She said that this tends to be a negative when the Chinese government reviews the perspective parents’ dossier.
As she told us, they are a communist government that is, for the most part, atheists.

There’s a church in Beijing(Peking) while there seems to be no church here in Nanjing

there is another thread here someplace about travel in china and seeking out a Catholic church, with some good info. yes there is an underground church in union with rome, suffering great persecution. anyone may baptize even a non-Christian, if water is used, the trinitarian formula recited while pouring the water, or immersing the person, and with the intent to do all that baptism accomplishes.
