Hello,

I am a newly ordained priest and part of my ministry is teaching a course on the sacraments in our local Catholic high school. I need to be out of town for a couple of days for another event and I’m looking for some good material, preferably video, audio, or podcast, detailing why we as Catholics practice infant Baptism.

What I am NOT looking for is anything that could be taken in any way to be demeaning to Protestants. Obviously, I love the Church, I agree with the Church on this matter, and my goal is to convince my students to believe in the need for infant baptism as well. But, with this particular group, I do not think the most prudent way to approach the matter is something that explicitly illustrates the differences between Catholicism and some branches of Protestantism. I also do not want something, that, for lack of a better way of putting it, is boring. Yes, truth is truth, but if it is presented in a dull way, the students will tune it out. I’m preferably looking for something from a dynamic youth speaker who is faithful to the magisterium (i.e. Jason Evert, Chris Stefanick, Mary Beth Bonnaci, Christopher West, etc.)

So, in conclusion, what I am looking for is electronic media, appropriate for high school juniors, that discusses infant baptism, but baptism in general would be acceptable.

Thanks for anything you can recommend!

Hello and welcome!

From a quick search, I found this dvd that may be focused on Catholic doctrine, but I do not know for sure.

The only Youtube video that I found that avoids mentioning Protestants - and it is nice not just because of the music, but also since it mentions writings from Fathers of the Church:

I’ll try search for other media.

Doing a quick search I found this: Sacraments 101: Baptism (why we baptize)

It seems entertaining and informative, though it is only 6 1/2 minutes long. I don’t know if that is long enough for you, but there you go.
Thanks! The Sacraments 101 videos are great. I plan on using all seven of them to introduce the various sacraments. What I really need though, is something that can fill a 45 minute class so my sub doesn’t have to.

I really like the presentations by Steve Ray.
He has a number of DVD’s, some are videos of him giving talks others are professionally made videos
I’m not certain if they would be ideal for the age group you need but here’s his website:

He spoke at the New Dawn conference in England last year, and really helped me resolve some theological doubts I had.

My 12 year old son watched two of Steve Ray’s videos with me, and liked them very much.

We watched the one on our Blessed Mother, and Peter and the Keys.

Beautiful on site scenery while he talks about our faith.

Father,

You have lots of good suggestions. I just wanted to offer my congratulations on your ordination and my prayers for your ministry. 🙂 :signofcross:
