I teach stuff like this to my sixth grade under the rubric of typology. You wouldn’t BELIEVE how they eat it up. They GET it. They REALLY grasp the idea of packing the symbols into the full context of Scripture.
Yes, my adult class (they are a lot like sixth graders, only a little less mature!) eats it up as well!

BTW, I just started a thread on Elijah and Elisha in the Sacred Scripture section that covers a (in my view) different angle on this scene. You might find it interesting.

As Lily’ Tomlin’s character, Edith Ann, used to say: “And THAT’s the TROOOOTHHHH!”

I’m already over there!

I am kind of lost at what you are referring to ? Since I believe in baptism, the laying on of hands to give the gift of the holy spirit . And these are in scripture . sorry maybe I lost a post somewhere ?
Just the bolded part. In my search through the ECFs for anything about form, I found this odd refference to dipping the head through the layer 3 tmes.

I’m not sure what that realy means, but it brings to mind images of somebody dunking there head in a basin maybe?

There really is next to nothing written about form, other than the few items already posted.

The vast majority of the couple thousand baptism references I looked at point towards its necessity, the fact that water is actually necessary and whether or not various groups needed to be rebaptised.

Form didn’t seem to be much of an issue and they adopted Cyprian’s philosophy.
