Baptism of illegitimate children?

My husband and I were not married in the Catholic church - I hadn’t started the annulment process to my first marraige. Our son was baptised 5 years ago. I also have a friend who is unmarried and had a child out of wedlock - she, too, had her child baptised (in a different parish).

I agree, and experienced, with the posts on this thread.

My nephew’s wife had her first son out of wedlock and he was baptised by the Catholic church and done so without any problems. Your aunt is protestant and they know more about the catholics than catholics do 😉 .
A much-resented but true statement.

EDIT: Not true, but you know what I mean.

Thanks for all your informative replies!

I was pretty sure that it wasn’t The Church who refused any Baptism solely based on a child’s illegitimate (‘out-of-wedlock’) birth, but perhaps individual Priests abusing authority that contradicts official teaching. Unfortunately, the majority of Protestants (including my relatives) that I know have some sort of vendetta against Catholicism, and judge the entire Church based on any of her representatives’ individual mistakes. In any case, I think that some embittered souls may often misinterpret a Priest’s decision and disseminate their own misinformed opinion.

In my opinion, the term “illegitimate child” is an offensive one and misconstruction of the facts. If there is any illegitimacy involved, it ought to more accurately be applied to the adults, who had control over their acts, and not the child, who did not …

Some of us had a diificult time as children, because of this “label” …

Return to the topic of this thread … 🙂
Same here. Even at 58 years old the term still hurts.

I may be young. [And] not once have I ever met anyone who was anti-Catholic…

[edited] There are tons of Anti-Catholic views, statements, ideas, misconceptions, and even whole websites that are devoted to the cult of Anti-Catholocism. We have all seen this before… Satan is just trying to cover up the one true church of Christ. The Holy Catholic Church, Headed by Jesus Christ in Heaven, and the Pope, here on Earth, being received by the faithful who are all trying to put a little light into this world, then getting slammed by “Christians”… How Sac-Religious. I know not all non-Catholic “Christians” feel that way, but there is more than enough…
