Baptism of the apostles

Hi!

The bible doesnt explicitly say that the apostles were baptized as it does in the case of Jesus.

It says that they were baptizing others so i guess they also was or was it maybe when Jesus washed their feets? Is that maybe their baptism?

What is the churches view about this?

One view is that the washing of the feet on Holy Thursday can be looked at as their Baptism. Especially looking at the exchange between Christ and Peter, and Peter’s response.

Jesus sent forth the Holy Spirit on the assembled. That includes the Apostles. If they were not baptized with water, they definitely were baptized with the Holy Spirit.

Two thoughts on this:

1. 
   *]Not everything that happened in the life of Christ is recorded in Scripture. It is entirely possible that Jesus baptized the apostles but that it was not recorded.
   

   “There are also many other things that Jesus did, but if these were to be described individually, I do not think the whole world would contain the books that would be written.” (John 21:25)

   *]Christ gave us the sacraments, but He is not bound by them. God can work outside the sacraments. We can safely assume that Jesus gave the apostles whatever graces they needed in whatever way He chose to give them.

As noted above, they were all baptized with the Holy Spirit at Pentacost. As Jesus specifically directed them to baptize others in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, I think we can assume they baptized each other with water, particularly since Jesus told Niccodemus that no-one can have eternal life unless they are baptized with water and spirit.

I also agree with the earlier reply that not everything that Jesus and the Apostles did (nor everything they taught) is contained within scripture. That is why “sola scriptura” is incomplete and scripture is only part of the Depost of Faith.

Scripture does not record the death of all the apostles either, but we know they all died.
