I was rather surprised yesterday that we had a baptism at Mass . It rather overwhelmed the fact that this was Pentecost . I assume is okay to do so but my personal opinion is I should’ve deferred it a week

I think it took the focus away from one of the major feasts of the Church to the baptism of the child .
Adult catechumens and candidates are baptised or received into the church at the Easter Vigil. I don’t think the baptism takes away from the glory of that particular feast. I’m sure we have the ability to enjoy two celebrations at once.

As an aside, our Confirmation Mass was held yesterday. It was especially fitting and celebrating with the candidates added to the day rather than detracting from it.

My baby was baptized on Palm Sunday this year. Other than the fact that it made our Divine Liturgy very long, with the procession and everything taking place as well, it was beautiful. Baptism is always appropriate!

We first receive the Holy Spirit during baptism and fully receive it during our confirmation. Thus, it is ideal to celebrate these sacraments on the day when the apostles received the Holy Spirit during Pentecost.

In the Byzantine Catholic Divine Liturgy we sing this on Pentecost:All you who have been bap tized in to Christ - - have been clothed with Christ. Al le lu ia! (3x)
Glo - ry to the Fa - ther, and to the Son, and to the Ho - ly Spirt, now and ev er and for ev er. A men.
Have been clothed with Christ. Al le lu ia!

That’s good point.

Pentecost is a very appropriate day on which to be baptized, The Roman Canon has a proper Communicantes and Hanc Igitur, which specifically refer to the newly baptized, as on Easter.

Interesting! Thanks for the info.

Remember that in the Bible, some 3,000 people were added to the numbers of the Church on Pentecost, through baptism.
