I attended a baptism this past Sunday at my parish. Also in attendance was a friend who is not Catholic. The deacon doing the baptism made the following statement that I couldn’t explain to my friend. Actually, I don’t understand it myself.
Before Baptism these children our Creatures of God. After Baptism they are Children of God.
I don’t remember what was said before or after this statement, but the statement was kind of disturbing to me and my non-Catholic friend.

Any thoughts. The next chance I get I am going to talk to the Deacon about what he said for more clarification. Is this an official teaching?

Before Baptism we are only part of God’s creation, members of the natural world, are separated from God due to Original Sin and subject to satan. After Baptism we become adopted children of God, with full rights to the inheritance offered by Christ. We are protected from satan by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit after Baptism.
