In a few months I will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of my Baptism. I see many posts on celebrating/renewing vows with children or at the Easter Vigil but not many for adults on their anniversary. I am seeking ideas to make this year special as well as practical tips to earn the indulgence. I lost my husband and see this as a fresh start as I struggle to find the new path the Lord has set for me. I do not have any family to celebrate with nor do I have the original candle.

The plan at the moment is to travel to the church I was originally baptized at, attend Mass, and say both parts of the prayers myself after the service. Confession would be at a local Church that week. Would it be permissible to ask that a new candle be blessed to light on future anniversaries? Would it be permissible to have a medal or Crucifix blessed to keep with me throughout the day? I see many forms of the renewal vows which should be used? Is this one of the occasions to request a Papal Blessing on Parchment?

Welcome! 👋 It’s great that you want to celebrate your Baptism like this. So many Catholics don’t even know the date of their Baptism.

To answer your last question first, yes, this is an occasion you could request a papal blessing. Just ask your parish priest about how to obtain one. It might involve contacting your diocesan office and paying a fee (the blessing is free, but the parchment and shipping is not :o).

I’d recommend asking your pastor about getting a candle or other sacramental blessed for the occasion, too. I’m sure he’d be happy to help.

God bless!

Oh yeah? Good to know. It’s been a while since I’ve ordered one.

Thank you for your warm welcome and replies. I’m looking forward to renewing my promises.I did reach out to the diocese office but have not heard back from them yet. I’m pleased to learn from you that I may be able to obtain the Blessing. I assume the Diocese will need to sign the form? Hopefully I can get the process started tomorrow.

I’ve been enjoying reading this forum for the past few months and learning something new each time I visit.
