I converted to the Catholic Church about 4 years ago and married a non-Catholic in a church ceremony. I am now pregnant and want to have my child baptized in the Church.

My concern is, I have no family or close friends that are practicing Catholics and really do not want someone I do not know ( I don’t know anyone in my parish well if at all, we recently moved to a new area) to be my child’s godparent.

Can I have my child baptized without having a Catholic godparent present?

I’m pretty sure you need at least one godparent.

Congratulations on the new arrival! God Bless

If you have someone in mind who cannot physically be present at the baptism, they can be the Godparent by proxy.

Talk to your priest about it.

The answer is probably going to be no. Canon Law requires for licitness at least one Godparent of either gender except in emergency situations.
