Hello, I am presently in an RCIA class and I am excited to join you all as Catholics. My question is do we decide how we want to be baptized or does our priest decide for us? (immersion, sprinkling, or pouring)
Then answer is: it all depends! In my parish we have a large enough pool to do immersion baptisms (the Church’s preferred method) and if people request it, that’s what they get. Otherwise, we use infusion (pouring water over the head) – and it’s a LOT of water!
