Yes, the Church does not re-baptize as long as the Christian baptism is considered valid. So you should make sure about this!

However, my impression is that if a Catholic baptizes his child in a non-Catholic community, this is an act of grave disobedience, perhaps of schism.

In order for your child to be able to receive the Sacraments, he would still need to make a profession of faith and become Catholic. Check the text of a valid profession of faith here. Is there really a point of precluding your child from receiving the fullness of the Sacrament of Baptism in Holy Church, only to later have him acknowledge the authority of Holy Church? Would he not wonder why he is called to do a profession of faith which his dad does not seem to follow?

I haven’t seen anyone mention that an 8-year-old is no longer an infant for baptism. He is considered an adult and would go through RCIA as adapted for children. At the Easter Vigil he would be baptized, confirmed, and receive First Eucharist.

We always had Protestant (Anglican & United Church of Canada) in our classes when I was in school and they always knew that even if they came to Mass with us they couldn’t receive Communion. It was never a source of humiliation for them. They knew and we knew that they didn’t believe the same thing we did.
