My hubby is military so I have lived everywhere. One of the most beautiful places that I have ever had the pleasure of living in was Spokane, Washington.🙂 Is SUmner on the east or west side of the state?

That is unfortunate that it will not be The Catholic Church. Hopefully you will find your way someday into Christ’s true Church and be Confirmed in the Faith and receive the Real True Body and Blood of Christ in Holy Communion. “Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His Blood you have no life in you.” John 6:54

I am glad that everyone else here doesn’t voice their disappointment. By throwing verses at me and basically telling me that I am going about it all wrong is not the way to get me to convert as most have found on this board when it comes to me. I am sorry you are disappointed but I was not looking for someone to tell me my beliefs are wrong just looking to share with others my excitement in my upcoming baptism… So thanx for your (name removed by moderator)ut but I really was not asking for it. 🙂

I’m glad you’re glad. 😉 But of course I’m sure we all have mixed emotions over it, just as members of your church would be if someone in their fellowship announced their baptism-to-be at a Catholic church.

While I can’t read your mind, I would think that you view baptism very similar to the Catholic perspective, and with that in mind, I wish you the heartiest congratulations! Of course, along with Br. Rich, I also hope that you will someday find yourself with the rest of the sacraments, as well.

Good luck, God bless, and keep studying & praying!

Now why would you assume this? I don’t know of anyone close to me that would be disappointed that someone chose to be baptized in the catholic church. Do you think that just because I am protestant that I feel disappointment for my catholic brothers and sisters? Not EVERY protestant feels this way. That is a VERY generalized statement.

If you are going to be baptized I say do it where you know that that is where God wants you! 👍

Hi SB and Congratulations!

Please don’t misunderstand Bro Rich, he wasn’t trying to be unkind…in fact he was really just pretty much saying what most all of us are thinking but being tongue-in-cheek about, that we wish you were one of us. We have so much to share and such a spiritual wealth, that it does kinda hurt to see people go other ways and “miss out” on those things.

Still, the fact is that we rejoice with you that you are receiving this sacrament (ordinance I think your church would call it, right?) in obedience to the commmands of Our Lord. This is an important step in your journey of faith and God willing we will share many more with you in the future.

We love ya SB and we are glad you’re here with us, regardless of all the missteps that we all make in communicating & sharing our respective faiths. 🙂
Pax tecum,

Congratulation SB, and welcome (soon anyway) to being born into the Body of Christ. 🙂

Hi SB!

Super news! Congratulations on your decision to be baptized!

I’d like to offer one perspective that may help you as you get some measure of mixed emotions.

I’ve got lots of siblings. One of my brothers was in Iraq for 15 months with the Army. He called my mother one day to tell her that he was granted leave to come home for Christmas last Christmas! My mother couldn’t have been happier. Her prayers were answered, her son was leaving the war to come home! Then, he shared with her his travel plans. He would indeed be home for Christmas, but he would make a stop in New York to visit some friends first. This news left all of us (brothers, sisters, mom, dad, nephews) who had waited 15 months to hug his neck and kiss his face with a tug at our hearts. Does that make sense?

No one who loves the Lord could be anything but joyful about your good news! Yet, you can imagine that those who love you and want so desperately for you to “come home” might have that slight dip of the heart when they read “no it will not be in the catholic church.”

This in no way means that they devalue your Christian Baptism in another church. They just wish you’d come home to be with them first.

Many Blessings and CONGRATS! It truly is such a big step!

Congratulations! To Catholics, Baptism is more than just a public confession of faith in Jesus. We believe that in Baptism your past sins will be forgiven, you will be born again, and you will become a new creation. You will become an adopted child of God and heir to eternal life. You will become a temple of the Holy Spirit and member of the body of Christ. Though outside the visible confines of the Catholic Church, you will become a beloved sister in the Lord to all Catholics. So…welcome to the family!

Hate to break it to you, but if it’s a Trinitarian baptism you are being baptized into the Catholic Church! :D:thumbsup:

God Bless, and congratulations,

Sorry, not trying to be devisive here. If you haven’t had your baptism, yet, try this test . . . Approach your pastor and tell him you’ve changed your mind and that you’ve made arrangements instead to be baptized at the local Catholic parish. Let me know what his response is.

I would be utterly amazed if he didn’t show any mixed feelings over it. It’s only natural. It’s not a Protestant vs. Catholic thing. Perhaps you and your pastor really wouldn’t care. If so, you would be quite the exception and not the rule.

As to my previous post being a “very generalized statement,” of course it was. When 99% of people would have mixed feeling to a similar announcement, it is OK to generalize. We work with generalizations every day. (In general, people stop at red lights. That doesn’t mean I’m going to stop and look both ways at every green light, waiting for that one exception.)

I’m still happy for you, but I also still hope that you will someday join us for the rest of the sacraments.
