I have been away from the church for a while and am finding my way back. I have had children since being away. I know the church requires Catholic godparents, what if there are none? As in, there are no Catholics I know to give that responsibility to?

Have you asked for help from your priest or deacon, or is that still something that’s going to happen in the future?

I haven’t discussed with anyone yet. I may be getting ahead of myself even asking. A week ago I had no idea if even be asking, but I realized He has been tugging at my heart strings for several months and so found myself at Mass for the first time in 6 years on Sunday. Going to take some time rather than jump right in, but like to be mentally prepared for various scenarios.

When you return to active participation, you will meet people. If you are unable to find a sponsor for them, your pastor will assist you.

I would suggest not worrying overly much about this.

Welcome home!

Indeed, welcome!

Also, to reduce stress even more, you only need one godparent. You can have two, but you only need one.

First of all, welcome home!!!

I believe that as you become more active, you’ll find opportunities to find great godparents who are active members of the church. It’s also an opportunity to make a great faith-filled friend.

Join RCIA! Even though you are baptized and confirmed, joining to assist will help you rediscover your faith, find some real amazing people and learn a lot!

I had a guy last year join us and said that in 30 years he never learned as much as he did this year!

Blessings
