Our family is new to Catholicism and we never had our kids baptized when they were infants and they are now 13, 9 and 5. My question is is it necesarry for them to wear all white clothes?
I know it is traditional for the infant to wear all white but the problem we are running into is that finding a all white modest dress for my daughter that does not look like a wedding gown.

Are other colors ok?

Colours are fine. In our parish when an older child is baptized we just dress them in an altar server’s alb at the Presentation of the White Garment. The alb, after all, IS the garment of the baptized.

If she a Brownie or Cub Scout? If so, then ask her about the idea of wearing Uniform becuse with permission from the Leader, she can do or at least I would believe she can do.Certainly would be able to in the Anglican Church. I was 15/16 when I was confirmed in the Anglican Church and when the priest brought the topic up, I don’t do dresses today any more than I did then. I got around it quickly by saying Ranger Guide Uniform. Which admittedly were skirts back then but at least got me away from looking awkward and clumsy in white or neat dresses…😃

It is a custom, not a law or a rule.

I assume the older children are going through RCIA. In my parish all the adults put on albs after their baptisms, so what they have on underneath isn’t really important. I know that in other parishes they make white garments for the people being baptized at the Easter Vigil so again, what’s underneath won’t matter. (The difference is that people return the albs while they can keep the handmade garments.)

hey,

sorry I can’t really contribute a well versed answer to this but can I ask a question?

I want to know how do I post questions on catholic answers. I only know how to ask the admins (which are usually not answers). I want to know how to ask into the main forums and how to find it.

If anyone can help, thanks! god bless

There are several ways you can do this. It is good to look over the different categories and choose the one that is most suited to your question/topic. You can use the button “start a new thread”, or you can “search” for your topic of interest and reply to someone elses post.

I also recommend the tutorials in the concierge area that will show you the basics.

My daughter ( the oldest ) attends The local Catholic school and she also meets with the youth leader once a week before mass . The next oldest (9) is being grouped in with the second graders to learn as they do. I myself try my best to learn as much as possible as our RCIA is over by reading and I also really enjoy Fr. John Riccardo’s pod cast.
My daughter learns and already has memorized a ton of prayers and enjoys singing with the parish choir.
I cannot thank God enough for our safety so that nothing bad happened before we came home!

Thanks all for the answers.

In our Parish all those getting baptized, other than infants, wear albs.
