Hi there! I am hoping somebody can help me with some advice on a situation.

My daughter was baptized 5 years ago, I received a certificate of baptism and all of her information was correct on it. I have now had to go and ask my parish for another certificate of baptism for her because of her enrolment in school and when I picked it up, her last name was missing one letter and one of her middle names is abbreviated (just an N. instead of Nunez). When I pointed out the errors, I was told that it was written this way in the book and that the book could not be changed.

I’m sorry, but I find this slightly ridiculous. I have the original copy which is perfect, not to mention a copy of the form I filled out for her baptism is on file and all of the information is correct. Is my daughter doomed to always have a problem whenever she needs a baptismal certificate for the rest of her life now because of somebodies carelessness? Is there anybody I could speak to regarding this?

Thank you so much in advance for your time.

With the information you provided, the parish should be able to add a notation with the corrected name to the baptismal registry. It happens often enough that they should be familiar with doing that. If you don’t have luck with the secretary, speak with the pastor about it. Good luck!

Talk to the pastor, not the secretary. Yes an error such this can be corrected via a notation.
