In reading this forum, it seems that the Baptist churches are the most anti-Catholic organizations of the non-Catholic Christian denominations.

Do you think this is true? Are there other non-Catholic Christian denominations that are more anti-Catholic?

In France they are not enemies, there has been a “Baptist-Catholic Committee” ( or “Catholic-Baptist”, I never remember ) ; Baptist and Catholic theologians have been having talks for about 30 years …
I like the way they tacle each topic, because it shows, according to me, a positive state of mind, that can, in turn, influence the state of mind of both Catholics and Baptists ( and, I would add, other Evangelicals since in some cases what the Baptists say or are told by the Catholics would apply to other Evangelicals too ) : after a short introduction, there is a first part entitled WHAT WE CAN SAY TOGETHER ; and only after that, there is a second part about the differences which, sometimes, are very serious : they are not dreamers, they don’t minimize the differences, but they don’t overemphasize them either …
and if you read the part about the differences, indifferent whether you are a Catholic or a Baptist ( or , more generally, an Evangelical ), it means you have already read the part about what they “can say together” :hug3: :blessyou:

I don’t think the Baptist Churches are any more anti-catholic than anyone else.

Its just that there are more Baptists than any other Protestant denomination in America, so it only goes to reason that Baptists are represented more among opponents of the CC.

Your opinion is based on your geographic location and place in history, IMO. If you were in Scotland, you might say the same of the Presbyterians or if you were in Yugoslavia you might opine the same of the Serbian Orthodox.

Baptist Church the strongest Xian enemy of CC?
Hi

I undestood that the Christians only love one another. Have all the Baptists and Catholics become “Moslems” as we are given to understand these days?

Please love each other and clear your concepts with peaceful dialogue or if it is no possilbe; then you may become Muslims, no compulsion however.

Thanks

Lurk about a bit on Baptist message boards and you will see a candid snapshot of what they really think. As far as I can tell they don’t even consider Catholics to be Christians. To find “information” on Catholicism you have to go to the “false religion” sections of their message boards. Sad. 😦

What is more disturbing than the anti-Catholic rhetoric is their missionary work to convert Catholics to Christianity.

Hi

That is really very sad. Kindly mention name of these message boards and their website.

Thanks

Well, I guess that goes back to how you define Baptist. The “formal” Baptists, such as those belonging to the Baptist Church of America - no, definitely not. It’s the “independent, fundamentalist” crowd to be wary of. For some of those, it’s a stretch to not only call them Baptists, but Christian as well.

As a whole, I think the Mormons, the Seventh Day Adventists and Jehovah’s Witnesses are the worst ones for the anti-Catholic bigotry, but that’s just my opinion based on what I’ve seen and read of their beliefs.

Some Baptists, yes, but not all. I find that there are more members of non-denominational churches and some Church of God members that are more anti-Catholic around my area. But I’m sure there are many members of those churches that aren’t anti-Catholic either. There are probably anti-Catholics spread throughout every branch of Protestantism as well as other religions that aren’t Christian.

I got my money on the Adventists.

But think about it. The WHOLE religion as divided as it is; is called Protestant for a reason. This is the only thing they have in common. And is the visible sign of Protestant unity. Expect them to protest. Thats why they call themselves protestants.

In general, it seems that those subscribing to Calvinist theology are more anti-Catholic than those following Arminianism (not all, of course–I know many friends who are not). Generally, the more traditional the theology in terms of the Reformation, the more “anti-Catholic” the church. Still, it varies from church to church and often the attitude of a particular church can change quickly with a new pastor. Another factor is the amount of ex-Catholics in a given church. Generally, they bring their tales with them and others accept those experiences as how the whole Catholic Church is…

Prayers and petitions,
Alexius:cool:

The link is on post #137 of this thread: How Do Southern Baptist Feel About Catholics

I’ve seen others in the past but I didn’t bookmark them. I’ve searched them in the past to try to understand why some members of my husbands family refused to attend our Catholic wedding.

I like to think that these people are the minority. In my town these type of churches are appearing on every street corner.

One of my grandmothers was a convert from Baptist; so I had a lot of Baptist relatives in New England. The Baptist minister was married to my grandmother’s cousin. [When my grandfather died, in the 40’s, the priest invited him to join in the graveside prayers.] In another town the Baptist minister was a good friend of my other grandfather. More recently in Southern California my next door neighbor was the minister of the nearby Baptist Church. We always got along well with all.

Are we supposed to be using terms such as these to refer to Christians? using an X instead of the word “Christ”? I was given a warning for calling protestants, an abbreviated term, using only the first four letters of the word.

Using X is an ages-old way of abbreviating words that start w/ Christ. There’s nothing wrong with it.

I find Anglicans tend to be the most pro-Catholic of all Protestants with the exception of the evangelical Anglican wing

Though we have differences, we are still brothers in Christ, not enemy as it is said in the title of this thread.

If that were only true! There are non-Catholic Christians whose goal it is to destroy the Catholic Church. If not by force, then by conversion to non-Catholic denominations.
