Altenz.

Why don’t you just start on the public forums?

When you say this (below), it sounds like it’s going to be a long process so there is no hurry.
almost infinite amount of questions
You see less than honest trolls can come here trying this too (I am not saying you are such) and then try to work a Catholic out of the faith while saying something about “converting” in their question.

Some people read this:
It pertains to converting.
And may think: “Yep. I bet it does. It pertains to “converting” Catholics right out of the fullness of the faith.”

Kind of like the (hopefully rare) Baptist practice of “missionary dating”.

Pat Madrid mentions this concept here too in this audio. As a matter of fact, this would be another good source of Catholic information for you.

So give it a good go here publicly and I’ll pray for you privately.

Navigate through the different forums and resources. Also, you can post a question to the Apologetic. Have you looked into RCIA. God bless.

I came out of the Baptist faith to become a Catholic. If you’re thinking of doing this, it is probably the Holy Spirit leading you.

These Forums are really great for asking questions.

🙂

Welcome, Altenz,

I agree with the others. Why not just ask your questions here in the forums?

I am sure that everyone will do their best to help you out with answering your questions. 🙂

Like tawny mentioned in her post to you, have you looked into RCIA classes in your local parish? I would recommend doing that too, if you haven’t already checked that out.

I was raised Southern Baptist and live in the South. After 25 yrs as a Baptist I attended my first Catholic Mass, heard the priest say the words of consecration (“This IS my body”), and began the conversion process only a few months later. I have been Catholic now for almost 25 years.

I initially had some questions regarding Mary and the communion of saints; but it was explained very well to me by Catholic friends and priests.

Ask, seek, knock.

Ditto. And ditto. I personally am not getting into a private email relationship with someone I don’t know, but I will work on any questions that you care to post publicly. If someone else doesn’t beat me to it 😛

Welcome! Yes, please post your questions on the forum. Not only will we (hopefully) be able to answer them, but anyone else who is considering conversion can come here to read the questions and answers, too!

We have an organization that handles this. It’s called** Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults or RCIA**. It is for people who have already converted to Catholicism AND people who have questions on the faith, who haven’t decided to convert. You can go to any Catholic Church office and simply say you are interested in going to RCIA.

Since you say you have a ton of questions, I would recommend you go that route and go from there.

Good luck on your journey, and God bless you!

So, basically I come from a household where religion is primarily not really discussed in depth. My mother is hispanic and her side is Catholic and my dad black and his side is composed of Baptist. I was raised a Baptist, even attending a Baptist school up until the 3rd grade, the eventually moved, discontinuing my schooling in a church environment. Every now and then, we would go to churches but, I really do not feel that what is being preached about is truly accurate primarily because most of the baptist churches that I’ve been a part of uses the words “believe” or “think” in their sessions. I’ve read through the internet and even some people on this forum that i’ve communicated with yesterday said that Catholicism has an older foundation, and doesn’t have divisions, like other parts of Christianity, leaving me to believe that it is a more stronger part of Christianity. Some people say why not ask your mother, I have actually, she enlighten me on somethings, but she rarely goes to church anymore and her and my father acknowledges their different beliefs, and basically want their children to choose which religion they think are best for them. However my father really didn’t abide by this hence, myself and most of my siblings went to Baptists churches as children. So, I am 18 years old now, and searching. I’ve read through a lot about the differences between the two main religions but, I know that to ask Catholics that were once Baptists or even Catholics in general, I would get a more solid answer. Also, I was thinking about attending or even joining a local Catholic church. Would their be any preplanning I need to do before?

You are most welcome to attend any catholic Mass but not allowed to participate in Holy communion. If you are able to talk to the priest at the church you plan to attend ask if it is not too late to start RCIA, as other poster have mentioned.

reading not just the forum part here, but also the rest of the site is a good idea. i’ve got a good friend who’s baptist and i think the big difference i see is that everything in his relgious life seems to revolve around one church, the one he goes to. and i think he also is less emphatic about mary than catholics are. as a catholic, jesus is foremost to me, and i think much of the protestant criticism of the catholic church, particularly the old selling of indulgences charge, has been addressed. i haven’t ever seen the pope issue orders to catholics, etc.

I was raised Lutheran although we didn’t attend church very often. I married a fallen away Catholic and when he decided to return to the faith I eventually decided to check it out. Once I decided to attend Mass my preparations involved getting dressed in church clothes and driving to Mass 🙂

I have to admit I was confused by all the kneeling, standing, and sitting and didn’t know the responses or anything, but there are little cards or guides you can be given at Mass, you can look everything up online, or buy a booklet.

More confusing to a seeker is why Catholics do what they do and that is something you’ll want to research from reputable sources in addition to taking RCIA and getting in person instruction where you can ask plenty of questions.

Thank you all for all the info. I’m posting right now to let you guys you aren’t being ignored, rather they are much appreciated. I have replied and still is in the process of replying back to a numerous amount of people that have emailed me, and I just got out of school so i’ll be a little more active. I’ve been reading each and everyone of you guys’ comments and they have been helpful.

Hi all,
My personal opinion of this is that only those who are truly serious on their such as ministers and others have a bigger chance of converting to Catholicism, especially once they read on the history of the Church.
Conversion by itself is the work of the Holy Spirit although people can be unwelcoing to converts to the point of them not converting. Converts to the Catholic church strengthen the spiritual status of the church as most Catholics are not really well verse in the ins and outs of their Church.
