Can anyone give me a list of names of different Baptist sects or even how many there are? And is there any substantial beliefs or differences in theology that seperate them?

I think the churches of Christ would be very interested to know they are listed as Baptist churches.

They fight like cats and dogs, and the church of Christ will not acknowledge that Baptists are even Christian.

They are constantly proseletyzing each others members.

My church of Christ step sister fell in love with a Baptist, but before they could marry brother-in-law had to become a “Christian” and be rebaptised since his Baptist submerrision apparently did not count.

If I’m not mistaken, I think the founders of the Restoration movement were former Baptists, so maybe that’s why they are included. Either that or the ARDA just didn’t know where else to put them.

The founders of the Restoration movement were originally Presbyterian. I would not mention that to an accapella churchofChrister since they believe they were founded/restored by the New Testament.

The original restoration Disciples of Christ were linked with Baptists at the very beginning but soon broke away because they believed in a more sacramental view of baptism and the Baptist taught that baptism is a symbolic and done after sins are already forgiven by “getting saved”. The Campbells taught that baptism is a part of being saved and for forgiveness of sins.

This does seem to be straining at gnats but the churchofChristers are deadly serious about it.

BTW the churches of Christ are different from the Disciples they broke away and formed their own denomination in roughly the year 1906. I have nothing but respect for the Disciples.

Can you give me and example or cite a link or article please?

And thanks for this info.

I was raised by a Baptist mother and church of Christ father, so much of this comes from my own experience.

The tract rack in the back of my boyhood church of Christ was filled with polemics against Baptists, but none are on line AFAIK.

Where I live (in Texas) the CofC and the southern Baptists are the two main churches and until the rise of “non denominational” denominations giving them some competition they are still dominant and competitive.

There is one web site with a forum EX CHURCH OF CHRIST where I used to post. But be vey careful it is filled with viruses. Since the churches of Christ are all independent from each other they don’t have much of a web presence.

Being in Ohio the churches of Christ there may or probably are different from the ecclesial body I am reffering to, they use the terms church of Christ and Chistian church interchangeably and are less radical than the southern acapella Churches of Christ.
Churches of Christ baptism is recognized by the Catholic church and when I entered I was not rebaptised only confirmed.
