During her special she named the Pope as one of the most influential persons of 2013. During her brief two minute description of Pope Francis she comes up with that zinger. Amazing how the media distorts!

“Pope has softened stance on abortion”

That is a lie.

“Baba Wawa” said something stupid? That’s not really surprising to anyone who has paying attention for the last several decades.

Was there any expansion/explanation of how the Holy Father ‘softened’ his stance?

I found myself yelling at the TV 😊

However, considering that 95% of mainstream media has interpreted Francis to mean exactly what Baba Wawa said last night, I do think it’s of utmost importance that he publicly correct this, and quickly. Souls are at stake.

Baba Wawa has become senile. I find it difficult to believe that any mature person in their right mind believes anything she says. She is sort of a female Alan King, only not as believeable.

You guys are all missing the point:

who gives a fig what Wawa thinks?

Well last week direct quote here she said about President Obama “we thought he was going to be the next Messiah”
WHAT?!!! And who is “we” because it wasn’t anyone I know.

The problem is that it misleads Catholics and then we get accused of things by our Protestant brothers and sisters and it only makes things worse because they aren’t reading the exact quotes.

Really? I hope she does a retraction.

I heard something about the Pope and abortion, but the most I got from it was that Pope
Francis said that matters like homosexuality and abortion should not be our prime objec-
tive, rather evangelizing the world is more important, something like that, but I can’t really
remember.

That isn’t the same thing though as taking a softened stance on abortion.

The sad and frustrating thing is…he has. Multiple times. (The links _Abyssinia gave demonstrate that.) And honestly, I don’t know what more he could do or say to get it through their heads. :sad_yes: If anyone even casually follows what the pope has said over the last few months, they would know how he feels about abortion, and it’s anything but soft.

In fact, I don’t think I’ve seen anyone use as strong of words to condemn abortion as I’ve seen Pope Francis use. He’s been painfully clear that it is a serious and grave and important matter, and the Church’s position can’t change. (Which he even said in the very interview the media flipped out about.)

If Walters and the rest of the media are honestly this confused about what the pope believes about abortion, and really believe that he’s changed anything, that just proves how woefully ignorant they are and how poor they are at listening and at basic reading comprehension. I don’t even think if Pope Francis himself came up to their studio door and said “Abortion is a grave evil and a violation of human rights and dignity and the Church’s position cannot and has not changed and I am a son of the Church.” They would listen. (He’s already said every one of those things multiple times publicly.) No, they have their little twisted narrative that they are determined to tell, and nothing the Pope says or does will change that. Because they don’t actually care about the truth. :banghead:
