“The terrorist cell responsible for the vehicle attack in Barcelona that killed 13, including one American, on Thursday originally intended to target the city’s iconic Sagrada Familia cathedral, Spain’s El Español reported Saturday, citing police sources. The church was reportedly chosen for its religious symbolism as well as its busy flow of tourists, but the plan was ultimately abandoned after the terrorists apparently mishandled their own explosives stockpile.”

“The cathedral instead became the site for a memorial service for the victims’ families Sunday.” (from "The Week)

I’ve been there. It is very different from the standard Catholic cathedral, but it is extraordinary in its own way. Antoni Gaudi the native Catalan architect who designed this edifice and is also famous for his other buildings in Barcelona was said to be an extremely devout Catholic. No one should be surprised that this iconic cathedral is a target, further no one should be surprised when the Islamic terrorists make another attempt.

That’s a beautiful place and those who visit seem to appreciate it very much. I’m glad it and its visitors were spared, thank God.

True evil any way you slice it.

I have, since my youth, wanted to visit that beautiful Sagrada Familia.

Islam, the religion of peace has seemed to respect our sacred items!

:whacky:

Wolf Blitzer of CNN hinted that the Barcelona violence, specifically the van attack, was inspired by Charlottesville. But there wasn’t any church bombing there. And the Barcelona terror cell apparently had been planning this for some time. Could CNN have been wrong?

It is best nowadays to watch out for fake news. There has been a great deal of this recently when it comes to political news.

God bless and protect Spain, a long-time bastion of Thy Church. Amen.

St. James the Greater, pray for us.

Wondering…

If that attack had occurred that would have been devastating to the citizens of Spain
and would have shocked the world.

Thanks be to God this attack on the Sagrada Familia attack failed and I pray further
attacks will be foiled.

My prayers continue for the victims of Las Ramblas and Cambrils.

CNN is not to be trusted on things like this.

That doesn’t make any sense to me. Islamic terrorists have been driving cars into people for at least the last 3 years. What do some terrorists in Spain with a religious motive and a planned attack have to do with a white supremist who took a moment of opportunity? Nothing is similar other than the mode of murder. If anything the neo-nazi guy was inspired by ISIS.

Of course, but remember, it is CNN and Wolf Blitzer. I used to think he was the only one who had any credibility. Not anymore!

Anyone with a pea brain can see this had nothing to do with Charlottesville. News people blather to fill time, they say most anything. Maybe Wolfie is getting over the hill and trying to stay relevant.
