Hi y’all,

I’ve been saving up to buy a new Missal and Douay-Rheims Bible combo, but I want y’alls opinions on it. I have the Angelus Press Missal but it was water damaged so the bottom half of its all wrinkled up and makes noise when you turn the pages.

So I’m going to buy the Baronius Press pocket sized Douai-Rheims Bible.

BUT, I don’t know if I want to buy the Baronius Press Missal to match it or if I want to buy the Angelus Press Missal instead.

What do y’all think?

Thanks,

Landon

I prefer the Father Lasance New Roman Missal, but I also like the Angelus press missal which I used before I got the Father Lasance.

I hope you have really good eyesight because the font size on the pocket Douay is miniscule.

i have both the Bible and Missals you mention.

I like the size of the Bible. The font isn’t that bad. The Psalms/NT version is a tad smaller and the font is very fine. The pocket OT/NT Bible is a little bigger and the font is more readable.

As for the Missals, I got both and kept the Angelus Press missal. There are some extras in there that are really nice. Get the Leather edition as it is more durable (when I bought mine, there was a choice between vinyl or leather. I’m not sure if there is still a choice, but if so, you won’t be disappointed in the leather-bound version).

I love my baronius 62 missal. Couldn’t compare to angelus but certainly my baronius missal complements my baronius breviary great!

I have used the Baronius Press Missal for years, and it is a beautiful missal. The text is also large enough to easily follow along with the Mass.

Over the years, I have gravitated to the St. Andrew’s Missal for a couple of reasons. First, the commentary and explanations in the St. Andrew Missal are excellent. Compared to other missals I have tried, the St. Andrew Missal has, by far, the most exhaustive commentaries for any missal.

Secondly, the St. Andrew Missal is the same missal my parents and grandparents used, so there is something intrinsically amazing to be reading the same text that my direct ancestors would have read.

My only fault with the St. Andrew Missal is the small font size, which makes it much harder to read. Regardless of the missal you choose, consider picking up a St. Andrew Missal for the commentary alone.

I have the Baronius Press one. I really like it as I got the Summorum Pontificum details with it nearly 4 years ago. Now if my diocese offered the TLM, I’d use it more often as the closest diocesan TLM is 40 miles one way from me in a different diocese.
