My city (houston) got a new co-cathedral…its really beautiful anyway…the bapstimal font which is in the middle of the church and recently i went to go look around…

i went to bless my self with holy water…

I SAW COINS IN THE BAPSTISMAL FONT!!!
I DON’T THINK SOMEONE( A KID) ACCIDENTLY THREW A COIN BECAUSE

THERE WERE MANY COINS FILLING THE BOTTOM OF THE FONT

what should i do??? should i talk to the Cardinal (if i can talk to him)

I am sure the maintenance people have already noticed this, maybe there needs to be a sign. what can you expect when a church is also a tourist attraction

the cathedral is beautiful, you are very blessed, I would love to participate in Easter vigil there, it seems perfect for that (my criteria for a good church design). Cardinal will be here next month for Mass and reception for members of lay ecclesial groups. we are very impressed with him and congratulate you.

DD used to attend a church in NC which had a large font with fountain in the center and a marble railing all around about a foot high. it always had coins in it as well, which were dug out by the maintenance people each week and presumably added to the collection

yea your right it is a tourist attraction…but can you blame us:D
and there should probably be a sign but should i do anything…after all it is holy water

I would probably express my concern. I don’t see anything wrong with putting a sign up for tourist either.

I’m sure the put the money and put it in the collection, but it still takes away from what the baptismal font is about.

I want to put up a sign asking that people throw only paper money; it is easier to fish out. 😃

better than just a sign…put a donations box there as well:thumbsup:

although this is one more thing to keep in mind when arguing for a traditional font:rolleyes:

not necessarily, our parish church when I was a child had a traditional font at the entrance, it was also a “tourist attraction” and people did do the wishing well thing. as soon as one pennie appeared, miraculously there were dozens more coins
