Batism and conversion

i whish to convert to catholism however i have not had the sacrement of batism .
my partner is a sub deacon and last year he gave me a baptism of water at st ninians well . we know that he dosnt have the power to give sacrement but with the water being holly water would this be enough to validate me as christian in the eyes of the catholic church ?

i only ask because we were going to get married in october but my church have refused permision for me to marry outside the brethren church.
meening that i will have to convert befor the wedding for it to go ahead but i cannot get the extra time of work for a sacremental baptism. please help.

You need to make an appointment with a local Catholic priest and discuss your desire to convert to the Catholic Church and explain that your boyfriend baptized you. The Catholic Church recognizes non-Catholic baptisms as valid provided they were done in the Trinitarian formula.

You need to meet with the priest as soon as possible and lay out all the facts. I’m a bit unclear regarding what religion you are and what religion your boyfriend is, since you refer to him as a “sub-deacon”.

Your conversion to the Catholic Church may take longer than your wedding timeline, so you may need to adjust that. Go talk to a priest and discuss everything, including your baptism, with him.

What does the underlined above mean?

The power for baptism comes from GOD… EVEN an Atheist who uses the trinitarian formula can baptize a person.

Holy Water is not required either. HOWEVER the norm is for a Catholic Clergyman perfrom the baptism.

Since you mentioned the words SUB DEACON I am assuming you are a member of a protestant ecclesial community.

If you are unable to get the time off work, you may have exceptional circumstances. From the liturgical book “Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults” (RCIA):
“307 Exceptional circumstances may arise in which the local bishop, in individual cases, can allow the use of a form of Christian initiation that is simpler than the usual, complete rite …
The extraordinary circumstances in question are either events that prevent the candidate from completing all the steps of the catechumenate or a depth of Christian conversion and a degree of religious maturity that lead the local bishop to decide that the candidate may receive baptism without delay.”

no my boyfriend is an irish catholic and when he was initiated in 1985 there were sub decons and deacons . i think now sub deacon has been replaced by the term accolite however his title is still sub deacon as that is what his leter of instiution states .

thank you for the link the information was verry helpfull . i shall be making an apointment to see the bishop shortly.

i do realise that baptism comes from god however to receive sacrement of marrage you have to have the sacrement of baptism wich can ONLY be give by an ordaned menber of clergy according to catholic doctrin (i did do my homework before asking you) . but that is incidental what i ment was would i be classed as catholic? untill i am officialy baptised (as opposed to a baptism of desire) the brethren church will still insist i am brethren and as i dont have permision to marry someone not of the brethren church our marrage could not go ahed .

Eastern Churches, including those in communion with Rome, have retained the subdiaconate.
