I am beginnig to see them in churches. I was told one the reasons for the switch was because of fire hazards caused by unattended candles…

Ment by does the church allow this for personal use at home or not?

Yes, you can use artificial or battery-powered candles for personal use in prayer.

Thank you. My candles are battery operated but are real wax candles they will work vary well for if or when you can’t have flame they come in sets I have a set of nine but don’t know if there are any sets bigger than that. I got mine for Christmas so don’t know where you could buy them.

I can’t believe some church’s have L.E.D altar candles.
How fake ! What’s next !

Churches around them use them quite frequently. Sometimes it is to save on cost sometimes to save on space so they don’t have to store the old votives, Sometimes so it’s not so hot or other times so the room stays clean. Not my favorite but not a bad idea.

There are many places where our insurance provider has said no genuine lit candles…the Catholic schools for example…no real candles on the Advent wreaths in school no votives for prayer service, etc.
In Ireland our 800 yr old parish there thas electric votive stands, you push a button and make an offering.
The large amount of tourists would have place ablaze in no time.

Church fires are real hazards, and it would seem as if LED candles could really help reduce the risk. I was reading the local history of churches, and its surprising how many were rebuilt after a fire, a lot greater percentage than buildings used for other purposes.

I’m sure that other safety ideas are being considered, America’s insurance industry is at work.

I saw this on YouTube a few months back -
Scary to think of - Satanist - torching churches.

I do agree with the votive stands being a click on LED -
But not on the Holy Altar at mass time.

I think the risk of faulty wiring, gas leaks and carelessness are a lot greater than the crimes of radical satanists

I don’t like to consider such neglect like that of God’s Holy house.
I know a wealthy church, one year, had no snow removal services…
They asked the parishioners to help - hands on -

Anyways, things that could be avoided by a little monthly preventative maintenance -
I like real candles. I like watching when their lit and snuffed.
I like when they lower down with time - etc -

That would be interesting to look up -
How many Catholic churches, since 2000, went on fire.

You don’t have to use candles at all.
They set the mood and look pretty.
Wax, soy, plastic, whatever candle you like…

Whether the Church allows it or not, I use them at home because we have cats and a dog who would knock over real candles. Also my mother has real bad arthritis. So I’m not about to have anything in the house that she isn’t able to hold.

So - the lighting of the candles -
in the crowd of gathered Catholics -
Should be glow sticks 😛

Believers are becoming chickens !

I know you meant it funny, but I’ve seen school candlelight processions where the kiddos carry dollar store candles , like the kind you put in the window.
Some of them even look like they’re flickering!

Remember that those dollar store candles are the same ones sold in other stores and catalogs for much higher prices.

You can certainly use those- I think it’s even OK to use “digital candles” on your phone. I’ll personally stick with regular candles, though.

I’d rather see no candles used at all than LED candles at Church. Totally inappropriate for use in Church.

However, use in private would be fine.
