Again, you’re making my point. Some amount of the bullets will be a hazard to someone in the future, because there’s just wizzing along… And because, in a dogfight, they’re being fired in every direction it’s almost assured that some of them will hit an innocent ship ferrying hundreds wide-eyed innocent little girls holding teddy bears on their way to see mommy in Caprica 20 years after the orginal battle is over. 🙂
That’s like saying there is a chance one piece of sand whipping through the air on Earth poses a threat.

It depends how you count.

If you’re counting the oringal pilot “mini-series” as series 1, then yes.

If not, then, no.

The production company considers this to be Season 1.

So far, here in the US, we’ve had:
  • The series pilot (4 hours)
  • Episode 101: “33”
  • Episode 102: “Water”
  • Episode 103: “Bastille Day”
This Friday will be episode 104, “Act of Contrition”.
So have they been to Kobol yet?

Anyone else watching this series on the SciFi channel? I can’t get enough of it. Plus it gives me the perfect Friday penance since the show is on Friday and I can “fast” from it by waiting till Saturday to watch it on tape. 😃
I endured through most of the pilot, until I just could not stand it anymore. I have not watched any of it since. I cannot believe they made Starbuck and Boomer WOMEN! Starbuck (the original) was charming, if seriously flawed in many ways. The new Starbuck is just way to butch for my tastes.
I can’t believe SciFi cancelled Farscape for this tripe.

Ah well, you asked… 🙂

I remember the old series. (A female Starbuck? I liked the male Starbuck with Cassiopeia!) Being at BYU at the time, all the LDS kids were excited by the Mormon philosophy imbued in it by Glen Larson. Some roommates used it as a teaching tool for me and tried to rationalize Sunday tv viewing!

Issuing un-warned spoilers is outride rude in any discussion.

An EXCELLENT update from the dreaded chessy original!

This one has me riveted by its storyline and intrigue…and the way they depict the space battles with minimum sound instead of overblown sound effects makes for a very nerve racking experience… so far this new series ROCKS! 👍

Most definately. Thelast battle in the mini-series had me on the edge of my seat! Love the low whine as the cylon fighter does fly-bys on screen.

Sir Knight:
How does a Commander out-rank a Colonel?
It could be similar to things I saw when dealing with the Navy. The person in charge of a submarine is called a Captain whether they actually have the rank of Captain or not.

So in the Galactica universe a person in charge of a Battlestar may have a different rank then Commander but is still called a Commander just because they are in charge of the Battlestar.

Also it’s another universe and they could have different ranks. Also as they said on MST3000 “If you are worried about … Repeat to yourself it’s just a show…”

I’ve studied ranks (in my spare time) from all over the world and even sci fi type stuff and nowhere did a commander out-rank a colonel except on “Battlestar Galactica” and “UFO” (a sci fi show from the late 1960’s) so this little type of stuff bothers me.

Now THAT makes sense! 👍

The problem is one of translation.

On Galactica, they do not speak English. The speak Caprician.

The actual words in question are Quanthankan and Flomfufu.

In Caprician “fufu” means “to command”. The prefix “Flom” means “one who must” or “one who is born to”. So when Ireland & Larson were translating the originals, they chose the term “Commander”.

Likewise, “quanthankan” has a literal translantion of “the person who stands first in a long line.” Ireland & Larson decided that “a long line” was more or less a column, so they chose the very literal translation of “Colonel”.

FightingFat, you get to see many Sci-Fi shows on a different schedule than us. I believe you’re several episodes ahead in terms of the Stargate series as well–they just started up again last week for us. It’ll change come fall, I believe–we’ll be ahead of you guys for the start of the next season.

The man who came up with the idea for the origional series based it on the Mormon church. That’s right, the whole concept of this series is Mormon. Just watch and you’ll see.

Kolob - Home planet of the top Mormon God.

Lone battlestar wondering through space - Wondering Mormon tribe persecuted by the gentiles as it went west.

Cylons are us gentiles

12 tribes

etc…

If you like this series then you owe the great proffit joe smith a big debt of gratitude for invinting a sect/eligion so he could earn a living and take his neibors wife’s (and children too I guess).

I remembered hearing about Kolob on a Q&A CA radio program some time ago. I had wondered if it was the same!

The 12 tribes I figured were like the 12 tribes of Israel, with Earth being the lost tribe or something.

Hmm I looked up this stuff on the Web and I can’t find any of it. Where did you find all this cool info???

BTW, did you know that the word “gullible” isn’t in the dictionary?

Personal knowledge.

I was one of the children that Captain Troy and Lietenant Dillon brought to Earth in 1980! :rotfl:
