Is sexual humor a mortal sin?

Just curious. It’s a temptation that I’m around a lot. Not like lusting or anything, but just telling a sexual joke or laughing at one.

WE can hardy avoid those kind of jokes etc, its all around us,we hear it, we laugh & make light of it, Christians do anyway. WE hear them in the workplace, colleges & schools, everywhere, & out of the mouthes of people of all Christian denomination. Best thing to do is just laugh them off. I dont think they are mortal sins. Yrs ago, i heard a Priest who was coaching the football team, he said to them You guys play like a bunch of girls, play like You have something between your legs. I didn`t particularly like to hear that out of him

Okay.

What about bad jokes in general?

I just made a really hard confession today . . .

Then went and hung out with a good friend, who is unfortunately kinda in a bad place spiritually (though he does want to convert to Catholicism). He was making a lot of racist jokes and I kinda laughed politely but iirc I didn’t actually find any funny and I did say things to him about blacks being created by God too, but I may have lightly participated, I don’t really remember, and I know for certain that I joked/made fun of someone I know. I remember we were driving and some black guy had a mean look on his face and I said something like “I hate how they always glare at you” >.< Have I lost my state of grace? Already?

I hate this. I go to confession and feel GREAT for about two hours. Then I start doubting “did I forget to confess x? Or did I actually confess it? Crud! Did I just sin there? Have I just lost my state of grace? Can I take communion tomorrow?”

It just goes on and on 😦

I’ve been thinking about this s’more.

The priest I confessed too was very kind, really had a holy demeanor to him (I love dominicans - so learned and so humble). He told me explicitly that I’d made a good confession and showed true contrition, and also tole me to remember that “you don’t have to be perfect to receive communion” - not denying the church’s teaching on the state of grace, but basically just telling me not to be too scrupulous.

I think I might just be being scrupulous right now. That this is nothing less than Satan himself making me obsessed with my own sins so as to forget God - a path I’ve gone down before. Or is it Satan who’s putting that thought in my head? Is it God who wants me to be strict, and Satan who’s trying to mislead me into “not worrying so much”?

Anyway I don’t really think anything I did today was a mortal sin. But I want your advice.

And please don’t come in here with the idea that any violation of the 10 commandments = grave matter: there’s grave matter ex toto and grave matter ex genere suo; I’m pretty sure sins of gossip and lack of charity would fall under ex genere suo (“from their class” - that is whether they are fully grave or not depends on the extent of the sin, while ex toto are grave matter always, like blasphemy).
