**Dear Brothers and Sisters in the SACRED HEART of our Blessed LORD!

I am sick and tired of seeing men portrayed as drunken, lustful slobs. I am sick of seeing the culture portray men as “big sissies”. I for one, am a man and proud of it. I am proud to be a man. Here is why. When Our LORD created the male gender, He had this in mind:

Two strong arms. One to hug, squeeze and love, and the other to provide protection, to defend and to provide.

GOD made the heart of a man: strong, determined, confrontational when nessescary, but capable of a love that sacrifices all. Our LORD made the heart of man with the idea of a love that seeks to provide, defend and love.

Modern culture has perverted this and turned us as men into : Sex, beer and car obessed sissies who are afraid of hurting a fly. This is a rallying call to all Catholic men!! Be a man!!

My job as a Man is to love, serve and protect not only the Feminine Gender, but all who are in need of help and love. I am not a lust-filled, beer drinking, car obssesed (Although I do like cars) sissy. I will provide and protect those whom I love, and whom I am called to love, and will willingly fight for the right to do so. Our model of masculinity is St. Joseph. St. Joseph was no sissy. He fiercely and protectivley loved Our Lady and Our LORD, and willingly sacrificed Himself in order to lead them out of danger, all the while being prepared to fight to the death for the two of them if need be. St. Joseph was a man. Im sick and tired of being told that if I don’t get drunk or sleep with girls or go to parties, that I am not a man. FYI, For these reasons exactly I am a man. I am a man who hopes to conquer himself, rather than an animal that seeks to wallow in filth and mud for his entire existence. I am a man. A man created by JESUS CHRIST. **

I agree with much of what you say. I am just wondering where are you getting this stuff about St. Joseph? virtually nothing is written of him

**Actions speak louder than words. St. Josephs immediate, humble actions and reactions in the Gospel allow us to infer this about Him. St. Joseph never questioned but obeyed when it came to protecting the Holy Family from herod and other dangerous maniacs. When Sacred Scripture calls you a “Just Man”, then You must be pretty Holy. **

Amen brother! St. Josemaria Escriva echoes what you have said:
“There is need for a crusade of manliness and purity to counteract and undo the savage work of those who think that man is a beast. And that crusade is a matter for you.”
“And it so happens that among the chaste are found the finest men in every way. And among the lustful predominate the timid, the selfish, the treacherous and the cruel — characters of little manliness.”
“These devotions are manly, when it is a man who performs them in a spirit of prayer and penance.”

True. However, what the OP posted is what we DO know about him through Scripture. He protected Jesus and Mary. God wouldn’t entrust this job to just anybody. He must have been one special guy. ❤️

Wonderful post!

My idea of a real man is like the farmer in Paul Harvey’s “So God Made a Farmer”. I will not settle for anything less in character should I marry.

We Catholics are extremely fortunate to have so many wonderful male role-models and I won’t lose hope that such men still exist, and I am blessed to know some of them. Unfortunately, many I run across at college are pretty wimpy, sorry. 😦

I agree whole heartedly, although I would venture to extend that call to ALL men not just Catholic ones (but I understand why you were specific 🙂 ) no woman deserves to be the wife or child of a wishy washy mess of a man its just unattractive.

probably referring to the flight into Egypt.

a man doesn’t have to convince himself he’s a man. he just is.

I’d recommend potential men play contact team sports, learn how to handle a target shotgun, learn how to choose a suit and pick a good single malt scotch. learn how to treat a woman like she’s the only one in the room (this is key).

join the Knights of Columbus, they’re usually pretty good at this sort of thing from an RC point of view.

I agree with you that a man should know how to pick a suit and know how to treat a woman but contact sports, guns, and liquor are not a necessity. When we start equating manhood with those things its a dangerous slippery slope down the cars, women, and drinking which is IMHO what the OP was saying is not the makings of a man.

I thank God for opening my eyes to what a real man is, can be and should be. Sadly, there are few warrior-poet-kings like David left on this earth. Now, we all know David was far from perfect, but his heart was so pure and true and attuned to God. Give me a man like THAT. I do not intend to ever stop hoping for or believing that such a man could exist for me but I have also already told God that I understand if His will is that I travel this life alone.

And for the person who asked about St. Joseph, nothing more needs to be said that what scripture already said. A real man (just like a real woman) will be known by his fruit, by simply being. The same thing could be said of the blessed mother by Protestants who don’t accept Marian doctrines. However, the few words/actions recorded by Our Lady in scripture speak volumes about her.

playing sports (especially contact sports which are usually team sports) teaches a man how to lead and follow, how to win and or lose, how to play when you don’t want to because you’re tired or hurt but have to, and the camaraderie of other men. big time life lessons here.

a man who does not know how to handle drinks or treat a woman in public in my estimation cannot be trusted.

shooting, cars, poker, fishing, running or participation in any of a hundred different hobbies or pursuits is important also because this is how men grow in self confidence, and no one I know wants to hang around with someone who doesn’t have it.

granted, I’m not in high school or college, so my POV may be different from others.

All attributes I found attractive in my husband when I first met him.

I understand your point and don’t disagree, the original examples didn’t all ring true for MY personal experience but I do agree that the qualities you mention are extremely important.
