As you can tell from my posting history, I am scared of following Christ. The responsibility, the developed conscience, the reality of evil, and most importantly knowing that I am not worthy of God. It scares me. Why do I have to know this? Why me? Why now? Why can’t I just fit in with society or live to please myself or live in ignorance. I’m far too mature to go back.

Perhaps reading and thinking about the Catholic hymn with the same title of this thread will help you. We are all blessed to know that we can hand things over to Him and He is always with us.

Trust in God is very important, and this path is the only path that will give you rest in your soul. Nothing else compares to this.

God loves you irrespective of your worth.’

Jesus calls us to follow him, not as a way of punishment, but as an act of love.

God became man while we were yet sinners. This should show you the immense level of mercy God has for all of mankind, including yourself.

Following Jesus does not mean you will be perfect, but forgiven when you’re not.

It means growing into the person God had in mind when he created you.

The only one making you afraid to follow Jesus is yourself.

As Jesus said,
“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened,* and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.” Matthew 11:28
Don’t try and add anything to what Jesus said in the above.

I’m not sure what you mean by “far too mature to go back,” but I can tell you that it’s definitely time to talk with a priest.

I’m too mature to repeat some of the appealing sins I committed in my youth. Why would I go back and do that?
