It is absolutely NOT a fact. The congressional record reflects Dept. of Health transfers of tiny quantities of dangerous chemicals for research. These quantities were not weaponized and were not intended for weapons use. It is unlikely that they could have been used for such a purpose. We did not sell WMD to Iraq.

Please withdraw your commment
Read the above and then please if you would, give me a reason to do that.
That may be true, but no one knew that at the time so it is irrelevant to our decision making. More importantly, we did learn that Saddam was planning to restart WMD production once UN sanctions were dropped.
That’s a pretty important thing for people we pay to know to get wrong. Not an excuse.
That’s fine, but stick to facts when defending your position.
I have.
The Catholic Church supports just wars. There can be debate among well meaning Catholics as to what constitutes just war. This debate is further complicated when misinformation is used in forming arguments.
I am aware of that now. I was not aware of that before you told me.
The pope’s position was less definitive than you may believe. JPII said that war should be the last option. The US and the UN gave Saddam 12 years to comply and multiple ultimatums which he continued to ignore. Military action was the only method for removing Saddam’s regime from power.
That is exactly what I said - that the Pope issued a statement that he didn’t feel all options had been exhausted. Not being a wise-guy or anything, but it would save us both time if you would read what I write before you respond. This has happened about 4 times already. I am not annoyed, but from a practical view it is inefficient.
If you believe there was another method, please state it.
No option needed. He was not a threat. There were no WMD at the time. If there were, where were they from a non-speculative perspective?

OK ~ I give ~ what’s back…???
This thread was shut down (closed) yesterday and all my posts were deleted… I think it might have been partially my fault -but not sure. Now it’s back, and so am I…

I think I’ll just leave it alone. 🙂

Prince Walid of Saudi Arabia opposes the mosque to be built near Ground Zero:
In fact, Prince Walid, in his first public comments about the matter, says he is actually opposed to the Islamic center’s being built in downtown Manhattan.
“I have been associated with this mosque in New York, but frankly speaking, I have nothing to do with it,” he said in an interview. “I’m not for putting that mosque there.”
Prince Walid offered a two-pronged explanation for why he was opposed to the project: he said out of respect for Islam, it does not belong at the proposed location because of its proximity to a strip club; and out of deference to the families of 9/11 victims who might feel antagonized, the Islamic center should not be near ground zero. “I respect all religions,” he said.

I am not going to argue the fact that apparently 12 years of Saddam playing cat and mouse wasn’t sufficient enough time to justify a war. If you felt we should have given him another 30 or so, whatever.
However, to say that he wasn’t a threat is wrong. Just because he didn’t have WMD’s didn’t make him a non-issue. We don’t know if Iran has nukes- I guess they aren’t a threat either. Heck, we can’t be sure bin Laden has any means to attack us again-let’s just quit trying to find him and leave him alone.
In fact, bin Laden is a good example. We didn’t think he wuld ever be able to penetrate the US and attack us here on our soil. Before 9/11, Mid-East terrorists struck overseas, not here. So, while there were a few chances to take him out, many of them by violence, we didn’t act. And look where that got us.

You guys are going to get this thread closed for being OT. Why not start a new one?
