Okay, Zarathustra, you don’t like “Man Vs. Wild.” Fine. I got it. But, why so much hostility toward a remote television personality? You call Bear a “moron” and his show “retarded.” Hmmm. Why?
I am an angry soul

My hubby and sons like to watch Bear Grylls. I watch with them sometimes too because I think Bear is cute and seems like a genuinely nice guy. He is happy, positive, enthusiastic and entertaining. He might also be a little bit nutty to do the stuff he does at times. It makes for an interesting show since you never know what he will do next. But, some of the things he chooses to eat and drink are supremely gross, so sometimes I have to look away. If he is Catholic, at least knows that he hopefully will soon receive our Lord in the Eucharist to completely purify him after he eats some of that nasty stuff:D !
Didn’t you know? All of those grubs, snakes, lizards, and the odd camel or zebra are his penance! 😃

Anyway, that is one of my favorite shows to watch. I always wonder how the camera crew manages to follow him down waterfalls, cliffs, and such. They probably have a rope out of sight of the camera.

If I had to say who was the most extreme of the two, I’d have to say Bear wins in that category, hands down. I think Les tries to at least clean and cook the things he catches to eat, while I’ve seen Bear eat a lot of things that were still wiggling, oozing, alive, etc. I’ve never seen Les crawl inside a dead animal carcass for warmth or wring out animal waste for hydration or drink urine for hydration. So, I’d say Bear is loonier than Les 🙂 .
There are differences between the two. Les is much older (I think), and doesn’t have a camera crew to back him up in case of an emergency. So, I think Bear can afford to take more chances. Plus, they both show how to survive, and probably have different methods. Bear was also in the military, so I guess they’re accustomed to things that would be a bit more gross.

Well calm down…If a stranger on a show that is optional to watch gets you this angry what happens when someone insults you?
I like a north london soccer club thats means we disagree even more.

Ah, so that explains it and probably answers the question of whether he is a Catholic or not. 😉 He is merely doing penance by eating gross tidbits so he is sure he can receive the Eucharist worthily. Got it. 🙂

Gotta tell 'ya, just watching him eat some of that stuff makes me ill, so what an effective penance that would be for him, eh?

We disagree even more than you think-Its called football mate 😛
Yeah well if only we met but perhaps we will me my friends love a good brawl  I think bear gyrills is a reading fan which again only supports my earlier claims.

Nah you’re alright mate, never been one for getting emotional/fighting over a game of footie.

Bear’s a fake. He does not take as big a risk as it seems. He rehearses everything before they film and majority of the time consults an expert and learns how to do something beforehand, he doesn’t know everything he does. It does seem like he eats gross things, but they could be fake. He has admitted to eating food with the crew off camera while maintaining the illusion that he is “starved” on camera. Discovery even put out a press release apologizing for misleading the viewers. In one episode they rented animals to make it seem more dangerous and in another where he was in a “remote” area of the wilderness there were hikers waiving at him, trying to get autographs and offering him food. Catholic or not purposely misleading fans steams me. Les takes more risks, when you see awesome shots he has hiked up, set up the camera, done the dangerous trek and then hiked back to retrieve the camera. He is much more true to form.

Ahh, I always loved Man Vs. Wild, and regardless of his faith, he’s my fave for this type of show host. Well, probably one of my favourites anyway. 😛

It’s very nice to hear that he’s Catholic at any rate though, assuming he is. ^^

Unlike Les, it was obvious when I watched it first that he had a camera crew. I kind of already figured he had some extra help.

Come on! This is just a stupid TV show. Very few of the reality TV shows are actually all that real. I and many other people enjoy the show. How come there are always a few people that seem to enjoy raining on other’s parades?

Don’t mean to rain on your parade, just saying that it bothers ME that the show is touted as real when it in fact is not. It is advertised as a survival show not a reality show. If you watch reality shows you know they are competing against each other for some prize and the scenes are manipulated by staff for ratings.
This show was presented differently, but it was a lie and some people on here did not know that, just enlightening :).

Well, in the disclaimers and credits they don’t hide the fact that he’s got a camera crew. And anyone with logic knows that if that’s the case, there WILL be editing and re-filming.

it IS a survival show. Not because he’s filming himself surviving in the wild, but the fact that he’s showing how YOU CAN, if the situation were to arise.

Gryll’s has his camera crew with him Les does not. Therefore Les>Grylls

Thus Spoke Zarathustra
So?

There’s something called a DISCLAIMER to that effect,. Bear’s show is so he can DEMONSTRATE techniques to the viewer. Anything particularly difficult to understand about that?

Both Les and Bear were in the SAS.
I save seen many of the things they do in Book written by exSAS.

seems to me it is highly unlikely Bear Grylls is catholic; his father was a Conservative MP and his maternal Grandmother was an Ulster Unionist MP - both political parties steeped in British Protestantism. With both sides of the family having these allegiances it is hard to surmise he is anything else but protestant - most likely of the Church of England (Anglican) as that is the only church on the isle of white - where he was born
