Rev.13.18 ‘This calls for wisdom, whoever is intelligent can work out the meaning of the number of the beast, because the number stands for a man’s name .Its number is 666’
What is the number of the beast? Many people is avoiding using the number 666 Is it a superstition that number 666 will bring bad omen?:
 
There’s apparently some doubt about the actual number… check out Wikipedia’s article on the subject (i.e. while most manuscripts use ‘666’ as the number of the beast based on the Greek spelling of the title for Nero, the earliest known manuscript for Revelation uses ‘616’ as the number of the beast based on the Latin spelling… and there may also be one 11th century manuscript which uses ‘665’).

While you’re at it, also check out this list of numbers of the beast as well 🙂

Shear superstition- no bad luck to 666 - I had three 6 in my card hand and won the pot.!Bad luck numbers have more to do with culture ans folklore. Number 13 is supposed to bring bad luck to the Chinese it’s the Number 4. Every culture has a different one- I suggest we stop using numbers! I stink at math anyway! What ERICH has posted is very correct.It is still number of a man but which? Nero, Caligula- there were a lot of lousy emperors-so you can take your pick:D

It is superstion just like the number 13 and black cats and broken mirrors, etc.
 
Superstitions are for the heathens.

I once read that the number 666 is in every products barcode.
  1. it will be a man’s number
  2. no one will be able to buy anything without it
  3. no one will be able to sell without it
  4. those refusing it will be seen “enemies of mankind”
  5. it can be implanted in the right hand or the forehead.
I’ve also seen the number interpreted as 667.
Implantable chip technology exists - fact. The public havn’t been brain washed to accept it yet. But the next generation are being groomed to accept it.
Revelations is written mysteriously, so perhaps the meaning is more sophisticated.
 
Sorry all,
I am not interested in fundamentalist scare tactics. I am convinced that the book of revelation was written about the ancient roman empire, and was a symbolic attack on pagan emperors. I am not a scholar, but I think taking that book literally is either fear-mongering or oversimplification.

If they’re going to take Revelation literally, why can’t they take John 6 literally.
