Beating the chest during Agnus Dei

We do it, and many of the older people in my parish do it as well.

I am one of the few that does it at my current parish during the Agnus Dei, and Penitential Rite.

Our priest does, as do a number at our parish. (Including me.)

In the Penitential Rite, directly after the words through my own fault, the rubrics say

“They strike their breasts”

The word they, means us.

Yes, it is in the rubrics during the penitential rite: “Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.*”
AND for “Dominus nos, non dignus…”

But not in the rubrics for the Agnus Dei. Although as I mentioned in a previous post, even Pope Benedict mentions it for the Agnus Dei.
