Hi, glad to have a place to share our Catholic faith. I am studying the Book of Revelations and have a question about the meaning of Beatitude. The CCC says each human being person is called to ‘beatitude.’ Is it a state of being happy? Article 1719 says God calls us to his own beatitude Somehow I just don’t get it. Hope you can help define it.

For nothing else is understood to be meant by the term beatitude than the perfect good of an intellectual nature; which is capable of knowing that it has a sufficiency of the good which it possesses, to which it is competent that good or ill may befall, and which can control its own actions.

True beatitude is being filled with the fullness of God Eph 3:19. This will happen only in heaven. It starts here with God’s Grace as a seed to this beatitude and the fulfillment will be the vision of God in heaven. This vision is meant as a knowing of God without the necessity of thought or the medium of concepts. God is all we need here and in heaven.

When we put things He created ahead of Him, we are preferring the created to the Creator. This separates us from Him and His Grace since it is other than the perfection that is God. His Life in us by grace is the beginning of Eternal Beatitude in the Beatific Vision of heaven.

It is simply another word for blessing (beatitudines, benedictiones).

‘Blessed’ has various meanings but in this case it signifies the sanctification or dedication of a person to a sacred purpose.
