Mass today was unbelievably wonderful. There was a beautiful spirit there today for the celebration of the 50th anniv of the march on washington.

There were many beautiful moments. Many, many.

But I’ll tell ya, I nearly broke my eyes when my priest, Fr. Lawrence (who was at the March) called up the 4 other people present in the church who were at the March on that day (2 of them white, including Fr., and 3 african american) to the front. Then the five of them linked arms and we all sang “We Shall Overcome.”

Man. After that moment I was a raw nerve for the rest of the Mass.

Every little thing after that almost brought me to tears.

I get like that sometimes at Mass. Where I seem to be particularly sensitive.

But man, today was beautiful.

Thanks for sharing such a moving experience at Mass. It made my day!~

Yes, August 28, 2013 was the 50th anniversary of MLK speech I have a dream. President Barack H. Obama spoke. So let’s look at advances Black Americans have made in over 50 years. Incidentally saw the movie Butler. While the movie has things which are historically wrong and unfortunately has Jane Fonda starring in it, the movie has a good plot and Oprah should be nominated for Best Supporting Actress. I did not care much for Oprah as a TV hostess as she was often 1 sided (she did do some good interviews) on topics, but Oprah did an excellent job playing Cecil Gaines wife and I have seen 3 movies Oprah was in-Color Purple, Beloved and Butler. But let’s get to what has happened over 50 years to African Americans.

-We have had a Black President since 2008.

-We have a Black Attorney General.

-We have had a Black General-Gen. Powell.

-Blacks have continued to be successful in entertainment and sports-boxing, NFL, MMA and NBA.

-More Blacks are in Middle Class. There are more Black engineers, accountants, lawyers and more Blacks have gotten college graduation.

-We have billionaires such as Oprah Gail Winfrey.

Yes, Blacks have higher unemployment and there are more Black men in prison. But life for Black Americans since 1963 has gotten well.
