We all know that most of the Catholic churches being built today are “ugly as sin.” However, there has to be beautiful churches built in the last few 30 year that aren’t well known. Please post pictures of beautiful new churches you know about that were built in the last 30 years or so.

The Carmel of Jesus, Joseph, and Mary in Valpraisio, Nebraska… finished in 2001.

Pax tecum!

Is that an FSSP church? It’s very beautiful.

A new parish built in the last 30 years with a high altar (no mensa table) and communion rails!!! Wow! I go to a church that has a beautiful high altar and communion rails that are never used…

This one was finished early this year, I believe. It’s in Northern Virginia. There are also photos of Cardinal Arinze celebrating Mass there.

Edited: Because I know someone will ask (I know I did), the girl with the hair clip and the Roman collar is the pastor of the Lutheran church where this parish held its Masses and weekly events until the church was built. Other than having helped them, she has nothing to do with this very orthodox parish.

From the website of Our Lady of Walsingham (Anglican Use), Houston, TX:

“November 2003 the first mass was celebrated in our newly built church. The architectural design is inspired from the Church’s special heritage. The building was dedicated by Bishop Fiorenza on February 14, 2004.”

It is not an FSSP church. It is the chapel in the convent of an order of traditional Carmelites. A priest from the Diocese of Lincoln says the Latin Mass every day for the nuns. The priest is assisted by seminarians of the FSSP.

The nuns are cloistered so they don’t even go into the chapel. When they attend Mass, thay are to the right of the alter behind the grill. You can see where they are in this picture.

The only time you can see them is when they recieve Communion. When I was last there in 2005, I counted 17 of them. The nuns sing for Mass which is High Mass, and their singing is angelic.

picking my jaw up off of the floor

That is amazing!

These are very exciting photos! Yeah!! Cause for hope!

Thank you so much for sharing and please keep them coming.

The Carmelite church (above) is just gorgeous. The Anglican use church is quite good also. I can’t help but think that using an ad orientem (facing the Lord) posture could almost automatically result in more beautiful churches. I think it helps as it seems one almost must build a beautiful high altar and reredos when the posture is ad orientem.

WOW, I didnt even know there were any traditional cloistered Carmelite nuns left! That is a beautiful chapel 👍

Yeah, I didn’t either. Although I did know that there is a new Monastery of Traditional Discalced Carmelite Monks in Wyoming.

That’s heartening to see beautiful *new *churches going up. One I have found is Our Lady of Walsingham (Anglican-use) Church in Houston, Texas. It has a high altar that is used (the priest faces the altar during Mass) and communion rails!

Scroll up, that’s one that’s pictured above. Of course, there’s also Our Lady of the Atonement in your own city, also Anglican Use.

Cloistered nuns? They still have those? (Joking!!) 😛

I would love to go there.
