Became Catholic yesterday :)

Hello I would just like to say, I finished the easter vigil and am now a official Catholic, not a Catachuemen/Elect anymore! It was such a wonderful experience. It was at the cathedral so it was so beautiful and amazing. It went on for over 4 hours though and my wife had trouble with the length. The prostrastion of the elect during the Litany of the saints was my most favorite part. There had for be a few thousand in the parish that day and all those people praying the saints while I was prostrated on the floor in the middle of upstage was amazing. They also gave us communion from the golden cup that the priest uses. I didn’t realize it was that heavy. Then we dressed in white robes after the baptism with candles. Had a wonderful expereince, only that the baptism water was freezing! and the confirmation oil got near my eyes.

During the preparation in the morning I slipped and fell on the ice and really hurt my shoulder. My sponser thought it was Satan trying to prevent me from going, lol. Might have a torn rotator cuff but I still forced myself to go, lol. Will probably see doctor soon if pain dosent go away.

From what Ive seen I think its more fun to be a Catachuemen than a Candidate because you really get the full treatment. I understand the importance of infant baptism but the experience of a Catachumen while being an adult is so memorable.

Yes, when we were praying the Litany of the Saints, in my mind, I wanted to thank God for the Communion of Saints. I thought of some of the Saints who interceded for me in the last year. What an awesome way God allows the Saints to love us that way.

What did it feel like, to receive baptism, confirmation and the Eucharist all in one setting?

Oh, I’m so sorry that you were hurt! But YAY anyway! Because you’re “HOME”! God bless you and Happy Easter. Praying that your injury is not serious.

It was a once in lifetime feeling. I really tried to savor the moment because I know this is only a one time thing. The lighting of the Candle outside with the fire was amazing too. The priest blessed the baptismal waters with that huge candle that had needles stuck into it. My sponser said the needles represent the nails but she didn’t know for sure. The confirmation oil has this really wonderful unique smell and the director told us to keep the oil in our heads for around 2-3 days to let it sink it and enjoy the smell. I really felt like a new person once baptism was finished and we put on the white robes. Everything felt very illuminated and brighter after the mass. My wife told me it was an emotional high but I feel it was something much deeper because things literally looked and felt brighter.

I remember my Confirmation, and how the oil literally jolted through me. No one believed me, so it’s nice to hear from someone who also had a deep experience. God Bless!

that’s cool. i wish we could have done that, or i wish i could have seen that. simple gestures can make a big difference.

now if you thought those feelings were cool, wait until you learn even more and go even deeper into the Eucharist and the wonders of the Mass. you will feel like you’re going to explode with love of God!

I’m sorry about your injury and hope it’s nothing serious. Whether degree of injury it is, may God bring you to a speedy recovery.
Now about you becoming a Catholic. Congradulations and welcome, Brother. I also went through the RCIA process back in 1984, but this was to complete my sacramental initiation into the
Catholic Church. I received baptism as an infant, 1st Holy Communion at 7 years old, but fell away from the Church during
my teenage years, up until age 24. After my Grandpa died on 12
December 1981 ( Our Lady of Guadalupe) I then started to realize
there was something more to life. So I started going back to my
parish church Mass. I joined the Young Adult Group and then be-came involved with RCIA. On Easter Vigil, 21 April 1984, I became a full fledged member of the Catholic Church, by receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation.(Although a little disappointed a Bishop didn’t do it.) But that made it a little more
personal when my parish Pastor conferred the sacrament on me.
The part of that Easter Vigil Mass that will always stay with me, is
when the church is dark, then all the lights come on,and the bells start ringing,while the Gloria is being sung. The Gloria that was being used, " Glory to God"- St. Louis Jesuits. Sung and played
by some of members of the Young Adult Group I joined. That
experience started to bring tears to my eyes. At this years Easter
Vigil, during that moment of the Mass, it still made me tear up a
little. Even though diffferent Pastor, Gloria, choir and congregation
were present. Any way, that has been my experience. I hope that
helped you some how.

Oh, by the way. On a catechism note. The needles you referred to
are 5 grains of incense, to represent the 5 wounds of Jesus on the
cross. They are placed in a form of a cross. Above the cross is the Greek letter of Alpha, meaning Christ is the beginning. Below
the cross is the Greek letter of Omega, meaning Christ is the end.
(Or, Christ is the beginning and the ending.) On the 4 sides of the
cross are numbers of the current year, i.e. 2008. The Paschal
Candle that these are on, symbolize that of the risen Savior, the
light of the world.

Isn’t Catholic symbolism cool, when explained a little more ?

As Vatican Council II, said “Symbolism without meaning is void”.
 
I also became Catholic on Saturday Night Easter Vigil. It was a great experience and lasted close to 2 1/2 hours. We live in a rural area, so a small community.

You were lucky that the oil did not get into your eyes, as it did into mine. I have really short hair so it did not keep the oil and it began flowing down my face. Then suddenly I felt this stinging in my eye and of course a natural urge to rub. The altar server had a towel and offered it to me to wipe my eye clear.

The priest apologized multiple times later, and I told him I was fine, no problems at all. I chalk it all up to part of the incredible experience 🙂

PetersKeys ~ go to the Dr! Don’t let it go, because sometimes those sorts of injuries can be a lot worse than they feel! A blood clot could be a dangerous thing!

I know how your feeling. I was accepted four months ago! Just so you know that feeling your feeling now, that happy content and belonging feeling and that sense of being lifted up by God. That feeling never goes away.

Yea. For some reason I had a feeling something was gonna happen on my baptism date and Satan was gonna try something. Luckily nothing is black and blue, it is just a little inflammed in my shoulder and hurts when I move it a certain way. I think if I dislocated or broke it I wouldnt be able to move it at all.
 
I was baptized, confirmed, and received Communion on Saturday as well. However, I am not an official catholic, according to my parish, since I am still a neophyte and not a member of the church yet. I can’t register. So, I have a sour taste in my mouth. But congratulations to you.

I was confirmed on Saturday night, along with my co-candidates.
I was baptised Catholic as an infant, and received my first Holy Communion at the age of 8.

This made me complete. I am thrilled!

May the Holy Spirit, Whom you have received in your Confirmation, rush into your souls and fill you with His love and strength. May you never cease to grow closer to the Lord through your prayer, study, works of mercy, and frequent reception of the Sacraments of Holy Eucharist and Penance. May you spread the love of Jesus to everyone with whom you come in contact. God be praised! His Mystical Body is growing!
