If you’re talking about a priest, deacon, or other person well-trained in Catholicism leading a bible study, I’m all for it.

Before you spend time in solitary bible reading, though, you really need to know your catechism book, & have all parts explained that cause you difficulty because you either don’t understand the Church thinking behind an issue, or you understand it, but don’t go along with it.
Very spot on. I do not think I could agree with this more than what I do. I have spent many years at Bible studies, as a protestant and then a Catholic. It took me a while but it finally sunk in after a lot of confusion, do not go to a Bible study that does not have a priest or a deacon. I also learned to watch to make sure the Bible study they are choosing is one that has a good reputation of being in line with Catholic teaching, such as any thing Scott Hahn, Jeff Cavins, Edward Sri or Catholic Scripture Study International, in which the video talks are most all good Catholic priests. There are some others also.

The other important thing is, what others say something means in Scripture, is not always true and as you said, check it out against Church teaching.
