Because of the flu and sickness the Catholic church no wine given at communion.

How about at your church?? Did they stop wine communion?

Dont worry - You only need the eucharist, all the graces you need are in the eucharist.

I think the wine is this post vatican II thing, people attended for centuries without needing the wine.

They’ve stopped the wine at a significant number of the churches that normally offer it. Maybe about half of them.

As the other person said, you don’t need to receive both forms and in fact even when the wine is offered, a lot of people don’t receive it for whatever reason - scared of germs, avoid alcohol, or are frail and don’t have the strength and coordination to reliably handle the cup.

The Eucharist under the accidents of wine is not necessary to the people as Jesus is present fully in the accidents of bread after the Consecration.

My parish never offers the Precious Blood anyway. Which is fine with me.

Yes, our bishop asked that the cup be temporarily suspended. He also suggested that holding hands during the Our Father and shaking hands during the Sign of Peace be put on hold as well. I don’t generally do either of the latter actions, so it’s really no change, for me.

Maybe it’s really only thread 2649. Or 2648…?
😅

I worked and lived in Hong Kong for about 15 months 2002/2003 and was there during the SARS crisis.
We were all advised to wear masks (the N95 type and not the flimsy paper ones) to Mass and Confession. Everyone wore masks. Receiving from the chalice was stopped and receiving on the tongue was stopped. We could only receive in the hand. When it became clear that SARS had a very high mortality rate Masses and Confession were suspended until the crisis was over. A General Absolution was given to all Catholics. Of course once the crisis was over we had to go to Confession for all sins covered by the General Absolution.

Yes, it’s been stopped temporarily at the parishes here and at our Catholic hospitals. We are also to fist bump during the sign of peace rather than shake hands or hug (if you normally hug family members).

They say the flu is now expected to last through May.

How might one find this if one wished to read it? I put the number in the search and it doesn’t appear.
Irishmom’s post was a joke, based on the fact that there have been MANY threads on this topic.

D

Well the catholic church here just got on board with the rest of the country
. I guess???

😅
What I am asking is, how do you find a thread like that? I don’t see any numbers on my screen anywhere, and when I put a number in the search, it does not pull up a thread by number?

In my territorial parish (99% of my Mass attendance) we only offer Communion under both species once a year (Holy Thursday) anyway. So no, nothing’s changed.

The ICRSS (the other 1% of my Mass attendance) never offers the Precious Blood. Nothing different there either.

There are no numbers, it was a joke.

Type in “mass and flu” in the search. Or anything similar. Sick and missing mass.

Ok sorry I am still getting used to the format, and have trouble finding things. The search feature has been especially disappointing. I can’t find things I already know are here because I read them!

Yes, it takes some getting used to. The search feature can be disappointing. There are a few flu, missing mass threads in the Liturgy and sacraments sub forum if you are interested.

I think the poster was being facetious. Thought maybe you were, too. Sorry!

No worries! I have found other members much more helpful in learning how to use this new interface than any of the “help” available.
