Yes, Irishmom2 is employed here to make sure we don’t discuss certain topics too much! So run your topic past her to make sure it’s okay! No one else is allowed to chime in or discuss a topic unless Irishmom2 approves it.

Yeah, enough. It would help if people would do a search before creating a new thread.

No, we are still giving the Precious Blood but IMO, they shouldn’t, until the flu season is over.

Because of the flu and sickness the Catholic church no wine given at communion.
Wine is not given at communion. We receive the Precious Blood, not wine.

We may receive under both species or one species as Christ is present Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity in each.
How about at your church?? Did they stop wine communion?
My parish does not have communion under both species, ever. We receive only the Host. We do not receive the Precious Blood (again, not wine).

Ummm…i think the question was if you parish has stopped, and not whether its required.

We were just asked to not partake of the wine if we had symptoms. The wine was still offered.

We have no need of the syntax police here, thank you very much.

Are you suggesting that the failure to recognize the Precious Blood at Holy Communion is a 'syntax" problem?!

Have you any idea how many poorly catechized Catholics fall into this error?

On this forum we have debated about gluten free host on many occasions, and no one called the word police once. The OP used the word wine, a word our Lord mentioned many times. You knew exactly what we were talking about. The OP wanted to know how other churches were dealing with this very dangerous flu.

You
No, there is no “wine” offered at a Catholic Mass - EVER!
This is over the top, approaching sanctimonious. Our Lord talked about THAT too.

If Catholics cannot, or will not, use appropriate language when discussing the Eucharistic celebration, I don’t know how we can possibly win back as many as 45% of Catholics who have a non-Catholic view of the Real Presence. The Eucharist is the Source and Summit of our faith! How is using appropriate language for it “sanctimonious”?!

Apples and oranges. This thread is about the flu, and how Catholic Churches are handling it. The OP used the word wine and you are making a very huge deal out of an innocent thread.

Honestly, I considered myself to be somewhat conservative, but I am beginning to understand what others have been complaining about here.

Do you think I have made a “very huge deal” because I used capital letters?

The Body and Blood of the Lord is distributed during Catholic Mass, not bread and wine.

If I could make the letters real small, would that help? There is a problem in our thinking and language when this happens, “innocent” though it may be.

I guess you are getting defensive because I was replying to your use of the word “wine”, not the OP/thread title? The ramifications of this language are serious, as can be seen by the number of Catholics who participate in Communion and believe only in “bread and wine”. I am not throwing any stones, I am pointing out that, if we are not part of the solution, then we are part of the problem.

Are you saying it is overly conservative to think that 45% of Catholics don’t get it represents a “very huge deal”?

Our parish suspended receiving from the cup until further notice.

Nope. You’re expected not to take the Precious Blood if you are ill or are getting over an illness, and lots of people will choose not to take Precious Blood during cold and flu season, but we haven’t suspended offering it.

I spend a lot of time with small children, so really, the Precious Blood is the least of my worries.

Our bishop also warned us against coming to church if we feel ill. I was coming down with something Sunday and out of obedience I did not go to church - that was very difficult for me. As it turns out I have a cold and not the flu so I will see how I feel this coming Sunday. I’m really pushing Emergen-C, Echinacea, AirBorne, zinc and herbal tea!

Sadly we have withdrawn the cup in times of flu, but in the Gospel it said…

Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed on behalf of many for the forgiveness of sins."

The chalice is not required. You make it sound like it is essential.
The Host becomes the body, blood, soul and divinity of Jesus - the Real Presence entirely.
